What music do white kids listen to nowadays?

NYC is one small part of the nation. There are entire states where country music is the most popular genre, from Utah to Virginia.
And he isn’t right. Country night sells out in every bar in NYC. When Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean comes to town it’s a sell out in MSG. It is a movement that is in the mood for an alternative to urban music. Some people still want to hear actual songs with instruments, not someone mumbling and whining with auto tune over canned beats.
There was a Alt rock movement that was big 5-10 years ago.....The Black Keys, Foster THE people, Silversun Pickups, Cage The Elephant, The StrOkes.....but that has quieted down. Rock fans pretty much just see the folks from the 70s, 80s and 90s when they tore. Bands from Thomas’s eras do well even without original members.....Foreigner only had 1 original and they still sold out with fucking REO Speedwagon. people want it, but the radio producers, execs, radio just pushes music for teens.

Rock has just been around for a long time and ultimately talented young musicians aren't as likely to pick up a guitar as they used to be.

There's still good and innovative rock music being produced, but it doesn't really weigh up to the 90's.

Part of me does just think that thinking the music young people are listening to sucks is just part of getting old, though.

These are my top 10 artists I listened to last year.
1. Spaceslug
2. Bongtower
3. Truckfighters
4. King Buffalo
5. All Them Witches
6. Lowrider
7. Mastodon
8. Big Business
9. Brant Bjork
10. OM

Mostly pop rap like Drake, Travis Scott etc.

Pop EDM is still popular though not sure if quite as popular as it was 5-10 years ago. Pop, alternative, and R&B have kinda merged into a mega genre now and obviously that is huge now, though maybe less so with guys.

K-pop, country, and reggaeton are all pretty popular too and those that do often listen primarily to that genre and are very avid about it.

They listen to Edge lords like Tom Macdonald and Lil Dicky

I was listening to Truckfighters while playing Red Dead Online yesterday. Oddly goes well with the game.

Guaranteed there are still kids listening too Rock.

Fewer than the 80's and 90's, but there are definitely pockets of kids who listen to Metal/Rock.

It's not dead, it's just underground. All the best rap, or atleast for the most part, is underground too.

Rap is dying with this new shit btw. I don't consider mumble rap to be real rap. The lack of real lyricism is the death of the artistic side of rap, I'm not sure what's next, but I don't like the direction it's going in.

I do wonder what my 4 year old is going to listen to when he gets older. He’s spent all 4 years being constantly exposed to great rock music, as well as me on the guitar and piano around him all the time. Hoping he gets some of that via osmosis. But with my luck, he’ll be into whatever the equivalent of dub step is in 6 years.

If he's anything like my daughter it'll be whatever music gets played on tiktok videos.

Mostly rap.. at least in California. I used to listen to rap in the 90s and now I can't stand newer rap. Mainstream Rock by today's definition is basically syth or EDM and it's garbage also. I don't know what it is but when I see some dorky white kid bumping rap music from their car I just shake my head. Even better is when it's some white trash kid with his hat on backwards, tatted up, smoking a cig, etc.

Fortunately there's still good rock music being made, it's just pretty much underground now. You just have to look for it.

My man... Tekashi and Lil Pump are discernable trash though.

Look at their lyrics.

I'm not getting old. I thought that shit was trash when I was 15 too.

I've never been a big fan of mainstream rap, save maybe, Eminem, Big or Pac.

Some stuff just takes less talent, less skill and is of a lower quality than others, no opinion about it.

I've been listening to a lot less rap lately as I've been finding very little coming out lately that interests me, but I still find it amusing that Lil Pump - a one-hit wonder from over 3 years ago - is still considered by people to be the face of modern hip-hop by those who want to discredit it.

I mean, I guess Soulja Boy was a similar case 10+ years ago but at least he low-key had a couple secondary hits too lol

i thought we had supposedly progressed to the point where race isn't tied to musical genres anymore. all races listen to all genres of music. that is a fact.
