The reason their lawyers keep on using this defense, that they were brainwashed by a cult, is because it has a ring of truth to it. As another lawyer said:

Unfortunately it takes something like being arrested and left high and dry by their leader for them to finally snap out of it. It needs to be something personally damaging, something tangible, for them to understand. Then and only then will the empathy portion of their brain light up.
Unfortunately no liberal will be able to reason them out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. We're stuck in this weird loop where the more a liberal condemns them and their cult the more it galvanizes them because Trumpism at its heart is a movement of schadenfreude. Never forget, cruelty is the point:

I think the majority of them are relatively minor offenses.
I suspect they're going to make examples of a few guys who formed the core of this incident.

What is truly both sad and scary is that these people make up the base of the Republican party, these are the people who hold the fate of the Republican party in their hands, these are the people who any Republican absolutely needs to have on their side if they want to get elected to any office!
It would make sense that the guy who thinks innocent Black people are being hunted by police, which is practically the mathematical equivalent of being struck by lightning, would think that 500 people makes up the Republican base.
Serious question, how do you even know it was 58 miles if you're so bad at math? Are you sure it wasn't seven?

Ahh, yes, Model Rule 878: Attorneys shall not present truthful facts if the facts disturb the globalist pedo ring secretly taking over the government without trace.
In reality, the truth resulted in all the election suits being thrown out except for the couple that netted Biden more votes. If any of the dozens of previous suits established any favorable facts at all, the lawyers would absolutely be presenting them or else face potential ineffective assistance claims themselves.

The Republican party worships an orange psychopathic twice impeached reality tv host and 70% still believe that he was cheated out of the election despite zero credible evidence, Republicans think they are the silent majority despite winning the national popular vote once in 3 decades, Republicans believe that Trump is a business genius despite the fact he bankrupted 3 casino's, Republicans think Trump is popular with the American people despite the fact that not once in his entire Presidency did he ever average a 50% job approval. So I'm quite sure it's the Republicans are the folks who are bad at math.
