Law Is it time to stop traffic stops or have someone other than police to handle them?

So when things like meter maids and traffic lights are disproportionately citing poor people and minorities are we gonna complain about that too?

I was referring to cameras that catch cars blowing through solid red lights. If you're really a big "personal responsibility" guy there is absolutely zero reason you would not support them.

Solid red lights? Sure, why not? Great deterrent. And "personal responsibility" is not a term that should offend anybody.

As someone who’s been stopped multiple times and NEVER been cited once you’re wrong.

you’re ducking the questions with worthless anecdotes. If cops have a quota for writing tickets explain to me how they are not motivated to find reasons to write tickets when given the opportunity.

As soon as driving becomes a right equivalent to those provided by the 2A sure . . . . knock yourself out . . . until then try not to pull a muscle reaching to equate a privilege to a right.

Maybe if they had cars and the modern infrastructure associated in 1776 that would make sense.

They can't provide a right for a concept that didn't exist.

Your freedom of movement is a more fundamental right than your freedom to own an object.

in NYPD the PBA banned quotas in our last contract.. now they are called "performance objectives" we were told (depending on foot patrol or in a car) you had to come back with x amount of summonses each day or week .. sometimes we worked overtime just to do a special write 10 summonses thing etc... its a dumb idea and makes all the cops hyper focused on getting cell phone tickets or loud exhaust tickets etc instead of just doing their jobs

because its killing morale

They can’t find reasons if you’re not breaking the law. Your problem is that you clearly break the rules, but think you should be given a free pass.

I think they're a threat. You did something wrong if your license is suspended. It also means you have no insurance. It's just a terrible idea.

As I said itt, I always knew the people with suspended licenses and what they were about.

Another approach is to completely take police out of traffic enforcement and instead use unarmed traffic enforcers like roving meter maids or traffic cameras to do the job of police. The reasoning? They claim that there are too many deadly interactions during traffic stops. Here are some leading pro and con opinions.

I've been advocating this for years.

I'm surprised the technology hasn't evolved yet to remove traffic stops. Breathalyzers in steering wheels, scanning license to start your car, cctv cameras on highways...

Not saying I'm for it. Just surprised it hasn't happened yet..

I am Mixed on this. I can see things getting worse, not better with civilians doing traffic stops. I can see civilians being afraid to stop some people and sticking to the suburbs and having no discretion about tickets and that it would be only for revenue at that point.

Lol, still ducking the question? That says a lot.

Also, you think the cops find that a crime has been committed every time they hold people up and trash their car as they rifle through it looking for shit to fill their quota? Of course not dummy. This “you only catch shit if you did something wrong” line of thinking as been proven to be bullshit time and time again. Yet you keep repeating it.
