Elections My favourite characteristic of Canadian elections

Personally I like the longer format of the US elections. It's like the hunger games, with multiple elimination rounds. High production value on the debates as well.

Canadian elections are a snoozefest though, and you wonder how those idiots were selected out of a population of 30M. It's probably better to get it over with.
Lol. As opposed to a country of 350 million having Biden and Trump as the best candidates they could field?

I think election canada should be alerted way earlier. 36 days to hire, train, and schedule 200'000, poll site workers is insanity

The best part of our debate was the French separatist leader. He literally doesn't give a fuck about votes outside of Quebec and knows they don't dare insult Quebec because they want the votes so he spent the entire debate trolling all of them with insults. Even the moderator

More than one debate would be nice, though. Well, more than one English debate, that is.

There were a couple of good candidates in the US primaries, e.g. Tusli Gabbard. 'Muricans were too stupid / blinded by advertising to pick them. Ending up with Biden and Trump wasn't a given, it requires being people stupid and blinded by brand names.

No, in that 2 party system, it was pretty much a given .

Parliamentary system is superior in a democracy.

Definitely. This is probably the saddest election of my lifetime though, and that's saying something. None of these morons has a plan, they just want to get their hands on the faucet so they can direct the flow to their backers.

The problem is, no party can make a plan to fix this fucking mess. Trudeau increased our debt by 200 billion BEFORE covid was even a thing and said "the budget will balance itself", and Harper got eaten alive because debt increased 140 billion in his last 4 years. They can posture and make cute anecdotes and put boogeymen up to redirect attention, but the country has so many problems, some issues need to be sacrificed along the way and money NOT SPENT on some things.

The key economic problems are inflation, housing cost, healthcare. Our infrastructure is collapsing at a meteoric rate. Trudeau knows it. Which is why he called this election at a dumb time. He foresees a meltdown in the next few months and knows his stock is about to hit rock bottom no matter what. He made all sorts of promises the last 2 elections and then tried to opt out of them by saying "that's really a provincial thing, not federal", but now he is parroting the same problems again.

Liberals governments have been promising national childcare since 1984. Trudeau himself promised it in 2015 and 2019 lol. But he only brings it up around election time so he can say "looks , Harper wants to block this help for the poor" and then he can store it on the shelf again, never to be fulfilled. Same with abortion. The cons already ensured it will never be an issue again and Harper himself blocked parliament from trying to fight abortion after his promise never to bring it up again even after he got a majority and the old religious cons are such a minority that they can never really do anything but complain about it and their morals, but Trudeau tries to shoehorn it in when he can so dumb sheep can agree the cons are evil.

I do like how it's a quick campaign season, much better than the 2 year shitshow that happens south of the border. The quick turnaround from announcement to election reminds of a Mayweather fight, how the fight will only be 5-6 weeks after it's officially announced. Granted he does that to limit his exposure to USADA testing but still I find it refreshing.

I agree, I don't expect any of them to solve things, I'm just trying to save enough money to survive whatever is coming. My mom works in a hospital up North and she can't wait for retirement, they are surviving on fewer and fewer nurses while more people upstairs are getting paid 6 figures to shuffle paperwork. The cracks were all there already but Covid really stomped on the tile.

36 is plenty. I wouldn't mind if they were shorter. Let's give 21 a try next time, see how that goes.
The minimum duration is probably required to get the polling stations and staffing organized. I doubt you can go shorter than 36 days or it would be a shitshow. Thus election will be a total shitshow at the polling stations. Guaranteed understaffed and probably a big turnout.

My pet theory is that Trudeau was trying to time the Covid wave and claim victory, but his estimate was off.

My favorite part is at the end, you know, when I start getting fucked in the ass.

@Snackbar after election night.
