Idk, I feel like I’ve seen plenty of fights when one fighter controls someone from the guard or half guard, while landing gnp, and it’s scored 10-9. Is this supposed to be different because it’s backmount?

It is different, yes.

In guard is a 50/50 position. Your opponent can attack pretty good from there. Half guard is more in the top person's favor, obviously. That's why you don't see a lot of 10-8s for people just sitting in guard and peppering with little GNP. It's too close to a 50/50 still.

But having the back is different. There's nothing your opponent can do from there. They can't sub you and their gnp is extremely limited. They have to escape. It's as strong as mount.

Still the rules and criteria whether or not it's always upheld.

If so, then yes, I agree, there's an argument for a 10-8

48-46 Sterling is correct. Round 2 was dominant, far more so than the rest thus a 10-8 while the rest are 10-9.
