How Did You Score the Fight?

I don't like Sterling but he was competitive in the duration of the first fight and was only starting to fall behind a bit towards the very end but started the fight with edge.

That being said in the first fight it looked like Yan could stop him if he caught him but i didn't think Aljo had a chance to stop him at all. This fight didn't have significant moments and was a clear victory for Sterling just by control.

Lol at clear victory. Man sherdog is silly

It’s interesting that a lot of talk seems to be about what Sterling didn’t do, not about what Yan did do. He won the last two rounds but never really had Aljo in trouble. One could argue Aljo was much closer to finishing the fight than Yan ever was.

Draw rounds are never scored in MMA. When the damage is equal, the scoring goes to volume. When volume is equal, then the scoring goes to octagon control. Only if octagon control is equal is the round truly a draw, but that never happens. In fact, equal volume also almost never happens.

What you're trying to say is draw rounds are rarely scored in UFC. They happen often in MMA, especially in Japan.

I understand the "scoring criteria" that you've posted many times. Unfortunately it's not a great argument as the judges do not follow it as shown in previous fights scored on this very card.

They gave Griffin a 10-8 for laying on Rampage and almost everyone seemed to be ok with it. I didn't think it was enough personally.

and that was back when typically a fighter had to nearly kill someone to get a 10-8

1-2-3 Aljo on my scorecard. And round 2 could have been 10-8. Either way Yan lost fair and square.
I didn't think any judge would give a 10-8, but I'm surprised at people's response against the topic of a 10-8. Even before the rule changes on scoring criteria, 10-8's have been given out not just because of excessive offense by one guy, but also for completely negated offense for the other. If you prevent a guy from doing ANYTHING the whole round and become the only one doing damage or fishing for submissions, you can be awarded a 10-8. If you never hurt your opponent seriously, but ride them the whole round with them in danger, having to fight off your attempts, you can be awarded a 10-8.

This isn't the first time this situation has ever happened, so I'm confused as to all the people going "THAT CAN'T BE A 10-8 AND ANYONE WHO THINKS SO IS A CASUAL!" Reaaaally got me looking at y'all like you ain't watching this sport enough, user or mod alike.

he lost, he got outstruck in 1 round. Blame his slow start. Then one of the other rounds could have been a 10-8.

Shows how easy manipulated the casuals are when emotions are involved.

1, 4, 5 Yan on my books, but Yan is a douche so almost glad to see this robbery take place.

I really don't get the gloating from Aljo fans. It was a split D boys.

Try to imagine what sterling fans have been living with on here for a year, and you'll understand the gloating, even over an SD. A whole year of aljo being called a clown and an actor and taking the grunt of criticism for Yan's illegal knee. A whole year of people acting like Yan was clearly the better fighter. It's an SD win, but It's still a win against a guy that was supposed to "outclass him everywhere" and was the "real champ".

You personally might not have been hard on sterling, but it's obvious that the majority of people were, so it's obvious why sterling fans are gloating.

I was rooting for Aljo because he used to be exciting, while I did have him winning the fight...this was the saddest fucking title victory ever. I really mean it..and ive seen every single UFC title fight in history.

Exploiting the no stand up from back position rule and just latching on for eternity in r2 and 3 to exploiting the no kicking/knee grounded opponents head, kissing the ground stalling r4 and 5 out so Yan couldn't do any effective strikes.

Absolute fucking shit show, but I guess he earned the troll title of "Fight IQ god" between this fight and the first one. He really studied the rulebook hard.

2 was a 10-8, Aljo got some very good GNP in when Yan tried to turn into mount and got stuck underneath.

People were acting like Yan winning the rematch was a foregone conclusion. Yan was the one who threw the (blantantly) illegal strike in the first fight, but all the hate flowed to Aljo. When you put those two facts together and then you factor in the outcome of the second fight, it's pretty fucking amusing haha.

Yan blew it. All he had to do was either stay upright and strike or sprawl and get top position and he wins the fight. He just got into two bad positions in rounds 2 and 3. Very unfortunate for him.
