Her defensive grappling has always been suspect. She made up for it with physicality and decent offensive grappling (vs. Pena). Nunes and now Santos showed a good strong grappler can smother her.

Still, she should not have been in this position and just kept distance and win a striking exchange. Don't think Santos landed a meaningful strike on the feet at distance.

To me, that's why Val won. Santos did so little damage and landed so little, Val was even doing more when Santos had her back.

Santos was just simply better on the ground. Valentina came across to me as the better fight. Santos just seemed like she had a skill level 1 point up than Valentina on the ground.

No idea why Valentina kept going to the ground when she was so much better on the feet. That was bad fight IQ and just being stubborn.

Ya know, I kinda disagree. She didn't really do much beside control. Valentina landed more punches from her back on the ground and I think went for more subs. Better on the ground? Debatable, at least in my opinion. Stronger with control...yeah, I'll agree with that.

Valentina looks and acts like an android. Randomly answering DC’s questions as though she had a program error, just creepily holding her finger in the air staring at the camera. She’s a dominant champion, sure, once in a generation blah blah, but Santos had a far more intriguing appearance and conducted herself with tremendous humility in defeat. It’s not a great look for a 7-time defending demigod of MMA to run around like an amateur with their hand raised in what was clearly a dicey fight. I did score it for her, mind you. She had a really cheeky 5th round, and I expected nothing less.
