Crime Serial Killer in Northern California

“A good handful of the victims are said to be homeless.”

Well damn, what a surprise

What's the estimate on how many serial killers the US typically has active at any one time?
Less than 1 percent of murders I understand, but you guys have about 22K murders a year, so that's probably a few.

Edit: Also, with only @60% of homicide cases resolved, that 1 percent itself is probably pretty questionable. That's a pretty poor rate for a developed nation.
Supposedly it was 25-50 active at any one time back in 2014, and some interesting misconceptions addressed in the Scientific American article I read that in.

Probably just some sick cowardly fuck who likes to kill and then run and scamper away into the night. Odds are high they have nothing going on in their life either - probably some unemployed asshole.
One of the most common traits in serial killers is: repressed young men who feel rejected by society/men/women/their mother.

Well, that's been true throughout history but I think people get confused by that stat when comparing serial killers of modern times with those that were prevalent in the 60's and 70's. With modern high tech surveillance, smartphones, genetic genealogy, etc. It's much harder for serial killers to go long or have a high body count. You really won't see a Gary Ridgeway, Sam Little, or Joseph Deangelo anymore.

Quite unusual M.O. Seems motivated by nothing in particular, no extra-curricular shit with the bodies etc.

Hitman? Vigilante?

At least two homeless victims. Some kind of vigilante, thinking he's cleaning up the streets?

thinking off the bat, they are probably test victims. He's just hitting people who are vulnerable. Murder for the sake of murder maybe.

Sure, although even with modern surveillance and forensics 40% of your homicides aren't cleared at the moment. As stated in that article though, if the FBI was calculating a range of active serial killers in the US in 2014 as 25-50 and up to 150 murders by them that year (1%), that would mean they each killed as many as 3-6 per year. Even if it was as low as 0.5%, that would still be 1-3 murders each per year.
Assuming of course the FBI's numbers aren't completely out to lunch (you'd hope not, it's a pretty broad range).

Chuffed we got him but what was baffling 209 was how random it was. He just wanted to kill. That was his entire MO. No emotional pattern, he just wanted some random people dead.

Isnt there something like an estimated hundreds of serial killers in the US right now?

Police in Chicago were find striking similarities to random unsolved killings back in 2018 and these in California. Surveillance footage between the 2 cities showed what appeared to be the exact same suspect using the same mask and all to hide his identity. Itll be interesting to see what unfolds

I forget the exact figure but my prof said that every major city has multiple working at the same time.

It's crazy to think how people can just up and kill other people and completely slip under the radar but it obviously happens a lot.

Rumors are that we have a serial killer in our area, the police are saying it's just a rumor but they may be just trying to quell panic.

Sadly, the only thing that cracking down on some of the online escort services did was force some women to hit the streets again and that's less safe.

You would think with as paranoid as women are, it would be a lot harder to do this shit than it was in Bundy's time. But not all women have the same circumstances, some have to catch a bus, walk some blocks just to get to and from work. In fact, we had some 18 year old rapist who got caught recently trying to rape a woman who just got off the bus.

who can get inside of these fucks heads. I would bet it's self loathing though, when men loathe themselves they find the nearest possible men in close proximity to abuse. Usually just verbal harassment and badmouthing but I could definitely see it escalating as really the only thing that stops a lot of people from doing horrible things in the first place are the laws against it.

The only other reason could just be how fucking endlessly annoying the homeless are. Obviously, no reason to kill but you take a sick mind and that's what'll happen. I knew a guy who was so burned out on customer service at nights that he used to tell me the people that caused problems should be "ground into dog food". He'd say, "now just think about how nice it would be around here, no idiots coming in causing problems?" I'd just tell him the most basic thing that, "we're not god and we can't make those kinds of calls".
