Sergei is nothing new or special.

Sergei vs Jones isn't the fight that the 'die hard fans' want to see, it's a fight the die hard jones haters want to see. This is Alex Pereria all over again just at HW. In fact that's an insult to Alex, because Alex really is a marvel at Muay Thai. Sergei is just another explosive youngish HW.

<Fedor23>

We've been here before. In the ridiculously and historically talent-thin HW division it never took much for a decent puncher with heavy hands to rise to the top fairly quickly. I remember when Shane Carwin was doing the same, I remember when Junior Dos Santos was doing the same. Hell if you go back far enough there was a time when motherfucking Todd Duffee was doing the same. That's just the nature of the division.

<{titihmm}>

Now this isn't to say that Sergei is bad, he's just nothing revolutionary. His hand-speed is above average, his footwork is meh, and his chin aint all that. Now in the joke that is the HW division, all of that is more than enough to rise to the top. But lets not pretend that this is some new boogeyman challenge that Jon or even Cyril Gane hasn't seen before.

There is a reason that Pav fans don't want him to fight Gane and it isn't the reason they are telling you.

I respect your hustle.

And you're right, I know anything can happen and I'd hate to see Gane beat Pav. I do not want that fight to happen.

But Jon's fans don't want to see Pav, either.

3 of the 4 guys you named held belts of sorts. The other is Todd Duffee. Why does someone need to be revolutionary to be a problem?

Pav probably is the best wrestler in HW division as well. Khabib has trained with him and said he has amazing wrestling, plus he has a wrestling background in russia, which si 10x more valuable than having a wrestling background in USA.

Sergei is a Modern day Shane Carwin..only his hands are a lot smaller and he has a better gas tank.

Jones made his return for Ngannou and Stipe…now he’s asked to settle for fringe title contender fighters

Pavlovich has 6 consecutive wins by first-round knockout (record!!) and you guys think he's mediocre? lol stop protecting Jones from the #1 contender.

The name Sergei, when spoken in MMA circles, will forever make me first think the conversation is about Kharitonov.

I think the worst part of the thread was putting JDS in the same category as Shane Carwin... JDS was a legit all around HW with good skills everywhere....

Same dudes who thought Johnny Walker would dethrone Jones because of 'length and athleticism'.

Well where's Johnny now?
LOL!
This guy was the previous Jones killer; he was afraid of!

These guys pick a new Jones killer every month or so. Lets not forget Gustaffson II and of course DC was one.

They'll be quicker to say Pav was a bum than they flipped on their boy Gane (who was going to kill Jones at HW)

What is this thread about? If "Jones haters" are the ones who want to see it, that's obviously because they think he'd likely beat the champ. If the highest ranking contender is on a 6 fight win streak and would beat the champ, that kind of sounds like champ material to me.

What's the argument against it? You think the top ranked contender isn't good enough and instead we need a 41 year old part timer who's been KO'd in 2 of his last 4 and hasn't fought in over 2 years?

It's a perfect fight for Jones haters, because if Jon wins they can say he's a complete scrub and it does nothing for Jones legacy because he has no real resume' to speak of. And of course if he gets a lucky knockout it'll help them feel better about Jon being overwhelmingly the GOAT over their favorite fighter.

They also know it's not likely to happen because he's a nobody, so they can say Jon is scared or something too. It's their dream scenario.

I'm saying if he's as champ material as you say there should be no reason he can't fight Gane.

Why would he have to? He's the top contender right now on a 6 fight win streak while everyone else in the top 5 are coming off losses.

Then you'll shit on him when he does become champ claiming "he only has ____ defenses" when you insisted he clear out the whole damn division before even getting a title shot. Stipe, by contrast, never had more than a 6 fight win streak the whole time he's been in the UFC, got his title shot off a weak 2 fight win streak and never has to fight any non title fights even after multiple KO losses.

How about he fights Jones next and then fights Gane and Stipe so he gets credit for title defenses instead of having to do more than anybody else at HW just to get the shot? Jones had 0 fights at HW, Stipe is coming off a loss, Gane had 1 win, Ngannou had 4 wins for his 2nd title shot after back to back losses, Cormier had no fights at HW and 1 fight win streak at LHW, but Pavlovich needs a 7-8 fight win streak with 3 or 4 top 5 wins before even getting 1?

Why should he have to fight another contender? He already KO/TKO'd three top 5 fighters all within the first round in less than a year. Who else has done that in recent memory? Say what you want in terms of of who you rather see in a title fight against Jones, but Sergei is absolutely the most deserving to be in a title fight for his next bout.

Also Gane absolutely does not deserve a number one contender bout after his last two title fights went the way they did, he should have to fight someone lower in the rankings next and get a few more wins before being put in that position again.

Do you know anything about wrestling? Kyle Snyder has 3 Ivan Yarygin gold medals, that's a all Russian tournament where wrestlers from each republic of Russia compete (Ossetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Sakha, Ingushetia, Kabardia etc) and then invites are sent out to a few international guys. That means they literally ran the gauntlet of the best Russians in their weight class. David Taylor won it as well, Dake got silver, Americans often medal at this and again...to medal at the Ivan Yarygin means you ran through many of Russias best wrestlers.

Russia is the best at wrestling for sure, but often times top Russians lose to US, Georgian, Iranian and Japanese wrestlers among others. 10x better all this shit, you sound stupid.

Sergei is special, just because the HW division is the worst in its history.

Except Sergei and Jones and maybe Blaydes, all the rest are absolute cans. With all the respect, Ngannou leaving was a huge loss .
