Economy Disney cancels construction of new campus near Orlando due to politics

Disneyland is in California. If it's overcrowded that would lead me to believe business is going well for them and what you've heard is just anecdotal evidence.

I suppose it was from people who experienced Disneyland (I meant Disney World) when it was much younger and compare it to what it's become. Overcrowding is never good and overpricing only adds salt to the wound.

You’re not necessarily wrong here in my experience. I grew up going to Disney World every year with my family, and now take my family often, and it definitely seems to have lost a little magic. Cutting entertainment, charging for things that used to be free, getting rid of some classic rides for IP ones etc. And there used to be times of the year where the crowds were lower but now it’s packed year round.

But I do think a big part of that is now that I’m the one paying for the trips, I have a different outlook of where the extraordinary amount of money is going to and it kind of puts a damper on things a bit. I think that may be a big driver to the “used to be better” crowd.

Sounds good for Florida's coffers though. {<shrug}

I don't see how picking a fight with Disney helps his chances in the 2024 election. If anything, it hurts his chances. Unless something crazy happens, Trump wins the Republican nomination.
He just wants to treat them like any other company no special treatment. Funny how people root for the big corps now .. let’s go Disney and big pharma shut up and get your booster

I don't care either way, but instead of saying that it's Ron's fault for having conservative politics, couldn't it be just as easy to say Disney isn't doing it anymore because they have liberal politics?
From what I know of the issue: DeSantis went after them because they spoke out against his Parental Rights in Education Act / Don't say Gay bill.
The 2 cases are not the same because:
DeSantis used the power of government to infringe on Disney's 1st amendment rights.
AOC never tried to use the power of government to retaliate against Amazon because their P.R. dept. or CEO said something she didn't like.

I appreciate the response, but it's something that confuses me. Disney must understand that the people of Florida voted for him, they did so because they believed in his ability to lead the state.
It's a thin line when companies can reneg on contracts due to politics, and then blame him

In other words Disney is saying, support our politics or we arnt honering our contract

It would be nice if business just stayed out of politics from either side

You mean investment? Yes that's what every location would like. If Disney could pack up their whole park and move it to Georgia Ron would probably not be white knighting against them for having a different ideology.

Disney has been a gift and a curse to that place. Disney isn’t going anywhere and both Ron and Disney know this.

The media, as well as the title of this thread, loves to think it is due to politics.

I know first hand it has more to do with the Chapek/Iger conflict of thinking than the Meatball.

Many good people were impacted by the original decision to move a number of divisions to Florida. And many people were scratching their heads on why the decision was made to do so. Disney is in a huge reorganization meltdown.

Politics is the smoke screen.

This is a bogus comparison. If things continue in this direction Florida will lose a lot more in revenue than NYC did with the Amazon warehouse. And while AOC went out and rallied locals she never abused her power to dissuade Amazon's plans. Meatball Ron on the other hand is abusing his power against the state's largest employer to further his own political agenda.

Disney is slashing content on D+. They are firing thousands across all divisions. They are cost cutting everywhere and hemorrhaging D+ subscribers. They have lost 4 million. This has nothing to do with meatball.

And Bob admitted Reedy Creek actually IS Disney and is now getting sued.

Why do they want 5 years olds talking about sex at school?

No it doesnt. Disney hasnt been as good as they should be doing. Im not sure if theyve lost money, but they sure as shit have left money on the table.

Their Lightyear flopped.
Their star wars park is a disappointment.
Their star wars hotel is a disaster.
Disney + sales are low.
Reviews for their recent movies have been abysmal.

Disney is a business and they keeping fucking shit up. Desantis is going up against a juggernaut and hes holding his own.

It would suck to be relocated from California to Florida. Those employees are probably secretly grateful to Meatball.
Imagine going somewhere where you can't shit all over the streets or shop lift at will. That sounds terrible!
