This is a classic case of winning the match and losing the fight

Islam won Maybe 3 rounds but they were close

Round 5 was a massive victory for volk as he looked to be just getting started while Islam was at the end of his rope. And Volk landed more damage in r5 than Islam did the whole fight

Islam blocked a lot of the GNP btw, which lasted for 1 min but Islam won the first half of rd 5.

Not only is Volk's overall performance exaggerated (islam clearly won the fight and some people call it a robbery), but Volk's dominance in the 5th round is also exaggerated. Volk had a very dominant minute to finish the fight, people are acting like he 10-8'd Islam.

I wouldn't call it a 10-8 either but it was about as dominant as you can be be for a 10-9 on the 5th round

The round was leaning Islam outside of the last minute. It was obviously the clearest round either guy won that night because of how strongly Volk finished, but it's still being exaggerated because of the optics of Volk being on top of Islam, the crowd going crazy, and the fact that Volk was such a big underdog.

Regardless how it finished Islam won
Fury nearly died in the 12th round vs Wilder. OK he got up and finished strong, but he was the guy who won most rounds. Wilder did damage

Volk definitely finished stronger and inflicted more damage, but Islam won the majority of the fight

A football team can be up 3-0 and a team comes in strong and scores 2 late goals looking way more fresh. Yes the team that's fresh would likely go on to win, had there been more time. But this is the thing, there wasn't more time. The 5 rounds were complete and Islam hung on to win

Should of, would of, could of
That means fuck all now, as they are fighting on Saturday. It's a different fight and obviously under different circumstances

I would love these guys to both have a full camp, but it is what it is. The better man on the night will win, it will not be Alex

Volk is working with a world class Sambo instructor in Craig Jones so pretty sure they've got this in the bag. Volk R1 by flying kneebar

Islam will dominate with ease and piss everyone off, then a million excuses will flood Sherdog.
he will dominate, maybe not the 1st round, but every round after, potentially stop him, and then we will never ever get a proper volk - islam rematch, islam will forever hold the 2-0 against volk, "elevate" his status as some sort of new khabib goat brotha, and then islam moves up to 170. volk will literally need to go to 170 if he wants that one again. the short notice fight thing is not an excuse, it is the factual, order of events. in the end volk agreed to it, but islam ultimately had the final say, it is up to him, and he should be aware of what people are going to say after the fact. this will always be brought up. but its not an excuse. its simply the timeline order of events.

I think I view grappling quite differently that many others. People say Islam was doing nothing when he had his back. I don’t see it that way. What I see is Volk defending well, preventing advancement. Islam is working for his opportunity but it looks like nothing because of the defense. But the key word here is still defense, Volk was the one in trouble in this position and rabbit punches behind his head are not enough for me to say he’s being more successful. That to me in not effective striking whilst being stuck in a position one wrong move away from getting finished.

How many rewatched threads are there now of this fight? Lol
I very rarely watch fights more than once. Especially with these close decisions. I saw what I saw in real time. I give my score, and move on.

Because no matter what I say the Official score is never going to change. Whether I agree with it or not.

Sometimes I’ll rewatch certain fights. But mostly only if there was an uncontroversial finish. A clear tap, or technical sub. Or a clear ko/tko with no controversy as to if it was an early stoppage, etc.

I just don’t need the hassles. In these kinds of threads you usually just get the two fanbases agreeing or not with the official score. And no matter what the official score is never going to change.

I don’t need those hassles.

I think Volk finally realized that he didn't have to worry as much about the grappling, but it was too late. He gave away too many rounds being tentative and worrying about TDs.
I see a lot of people say this, but Volk lost 2 whole rounds purely off of getting controlled in the grappling, just because he couldn't get finished doesn't mean grappling wasn't a big liability for him, it was by far his biggest liability and he should still be very worried about it. It's not like he can let his hands go without a care in the world.
