Media Jon Jones training rugby in Australia

Rugby League*

There is a massive difference between Rugby League and Rugby Union.. Rugby League requires much better cardio and coaches have utilised wrestling and even BJJ techniques for almost 20 years now. Some teams even have dedicated wrestling and BJJ coaches.

It's actually been a very controversial evolution of the game as by nature Rugby League is much faster paced than Rugby Union.. these techniques have been used to slow down the play and put the attacker on their back as they're being tackled.. back in the day you'd be aiming for a dominant tackle like what Jones did in that video but now you have people holding onto different body parts and twisting in all sorts of directions. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot more fighters with a Rugby League background making the transition in the future

Uh ? Isn't the difference that one is played with 13 players teams and the other with 15 players ? Most of the world plays the 15 variant tho

In Rugby League , you have sets of 6, and it's a constant barrage of just sprinting full force at a pack. It's basically 100+kg men sprinting at each other tackling for 80 mins straight.

Rugby is more oriented around the ruck, and kicking game. League is a much more high pace, high intensity game

...Completely detached pectoral, devastating injury, so bad he had to pull out of 295 and take Stipe with him...tackling rugby players a couple months later. Fake injury, pulled a muscle and didn't want to give Stipe an advantage.
No fuckin shit. Jon ducked the HW division until Ngannou left and is currently ducking the HW division unless its the retired fighter Stipe.

It's crazy, he got a title shot against a non-champ coming off what almost everyone considers a loss and because he choked out a pure kickboxer who proudly doesn't even train a ground game, now he thinks he's somehow the greatest HW ever and calls all the shots-refusing to unify the belt and wanting to beat up on retired AARP Miocic instead. It's embarrassing how he thinks he should get any sort of credit whatsoever. I think this HW chapter is actually hurting his legacy, not helping.

isn't Rugby Union the more brtual sport? the other thing i never understood, is why the NFL doesn't hire Rugby coaches to teach NFL players how to properly tackle people. when in Australia i was surprised at how much emphasis is put on tackling technique and form etc.,

Toughest team sport athletes in the world and nothing comes close

Much lower impact in Union. In League the defence has to get back 10 meters after every tackle.

it is hurting his legacy, that's why i can only think that he's doing this just to 1 up DC. what other reason is there? if he wanted to lock his legacy in he could've just signed up to fight Ngannou, or even Aspinall. the longer he waits for Stipe the less intriguing the fight is and his career at HW, if you even want to call it that.

but what about the scrums and stuff? league's scrums look more like huddles, while union scrums look like an actual war for who gets possession. i don't really know shit about rugby though

Union scrums are tough but they also make the sport unwatchable. They can take a few minutes to get right and in that time everyone else is just standing around

Its even more cringe that Jon's fans on here are acting like Jon should be able to call his shots at HW like he is some proven HW. Jon really is the definition of a paper champ (at HW).

I would say Hockey is up there, they definitely hit each other at much faster speeds making the hits much more devastating than any Rugby hit, in fact I don't think I have ever seen hits as nasty in any other sport compared to Hockey.

Beat me to it sir.
No way he'd be doing that coming off that kind of surgery.

Lol, so much bullsh!t

Jones was simply tackling a dude with a bag

A world class rugby player would lay him out

I dare say Volk would have good enough technique to do it
