Media Cedric Doumbe claims to be "the face of MMA" in France over BSD / Gane

To be fair to him he seems to be more willing to step outside his comfort zone training wise than Gane has been,

Maybe our Sherbro’s from France can tell us who’s the biggest name in French combat sports right now?
@spinup @Koya @Koala @Richard Fannin @Sasha @Jean-MMA @Bubzeh
frenchbro here, and this is a tricky question: the country is vastly divided on that question. Doumbe didn't sold the 20000 place of the Accord Arena on his own, it was only because his opponent was Baki, a great french prospect. I go with Gane for the face of French mma for obvious reasons.

Still chuckling at the fact that people think a kickboxer is going to stand a chance against Europe's top MMMA prospect.

who the hell is Cedric Doumbe and BSD? God, I hate the new MMA =/.

We've gone from "Franklin vs Silva" as a headliner to "BSD vs Doumbe"

Once the old heads are all gone, this old head will be too =/

When Franklin/Silva happened there was half as many UFC cards happening per year, the vast majority were PPV and hardly any of them happened outside of the US.

I'm from France and he's 100% right lol, every fucking body know him in France even non UFC/mma fans

Gane is also popular as fuck but i believe Cedric is more popular now especially since his last fight

he is a loud mouth,
and has his followers
who see him as a Gangster/Thug
which is seen as a badge of honor in the poor France suburbs

anyway you are the face of PFL Poor Fuckers League

This sounds like some serious “kids these days” shit right here.

He'll end up in UFC eventually anyways so what does it matter

I would say Francis Ngannou is probably the biggest name in French combat sports especially since being UFC champion, knocking down Tyson Fury in boxing and his upcomoing fight with Anthony Joshua, even though you could aruge that he's of Cameroon origin and resides in USA. After that it's probably Cyrile Gane but Doumbé has a much bigger social media presence and knows how to have people talk about him with all his trash talk and troll videos.

Lol more like you took my post way too seriously if you legitimately thought I believed tickets sold for that low. I also said the phrase "bingo hall", come on man.

Obviously was having some fun with exaggerations but the point still stands that PFL sells their tickets for relative peanuts vs UFC.

So stop being a fucktard about this. Gane would be an absolute nobody if he weren't in the UFC. Doumbe is more popular than him, despite fighting in the B league. He gets more media attention despite the fact his fights don't even air in the U.S. It's worth acknowledging and giving credit instead of whatever bullshit you're on.

I'd say that Doumbe is probably the most popular, whereas Gane is probably still the best known current UFC French fighter, but IMO the dynamics are clearly in favor of BSD in France, and probably much, much more worldwide.
The difference is that Gane and BSD are known for their achievements in the UFC, they are just solid, balanced guys outside the cage, whereas Doumbé's fame also comes a lot from his showmanship, even if he's obviously a very good kickboxer (although, as far as MMA goes, he still got a lot to prove, about everything).

But man, BSD is fighting Poirier in a co-main of a fucking unreal card, less than two years after his UFC LW début. And he earned it, becoming a fan favorite without having to do fucking mattress jokes. Gane also earned two TS (and one interim fight that he won), and did it so fast ; only barely losing to Francis, before the reality check against fucking Jon Jones (big deal lol).

More importantly, Gane was our Flagship in the UFC when all the young genius prospects we have now weren't really there yet, and I'm certain that he paved the way for this generation of French fighters, and brought a lot of new French fans to the sport, in the context of the (relatively) recent ban lift. For this, I think he's not close to be forgotten.

BSD is just everything you wanna see in the octagon. And look at those France events, we fucking love him and Ciryl. Doumbé will have to do more than running his mouth while fighting other French prospects in the PFL if he wants to impress me the same way, to be honest.

But yeah, a lot of people like Doumbé nevertheless. But he's 31, and if he stays in the PFL, fuck that.

I don't really want to argue on the subject, but Francis, although he definitely grew as a fighter in France, and walked out with our flag quite a few times (and acquired the French nationality, so technically...), is now, I think, perceived almost exclusively as a guy from Cameroon, and I think he does so himself, especially since he left the country (France).

I know we have other binationals amongst our prospects, and I support them like other fellow countrymen, but it really feels like for Francis, France was merely a protracted step between Cameroon and the USA.

I have a special sympathy for him, he's still at home here, and the fact that he's a native French speaker obviously feels really cool, but in his latest interviews, I kinda felt like he wanted to turn that page.
Given that he was homeless here for a while, I can't blame him. Those can be PTSD inducing memories, depending on your luck, and your ability to defend yourself and avoid danger- he probably did well lmao.

But yeah, he's really popular here, like everywhere else I guess.

I don't know where you get that but he has absolutely nothing of a thug or a gangster. Does not speak like one, does not act like one. No history of street fighting or crime, no claim of rough childhood and being a tough guy.
He is a loud mouth clown, but it's nothing more than entertainment.

If Doumbe is a kickboxer, what was Baki when he was 5-0? A judoka? Let's be serious.

I think you will be very surprized.
