Winning Velcro 16oz Gloves with pics

Are those downright cletos safetecs?
I have a problem with mine, some pading piece is glued out so I must set it in place every time before put the gloves on.

These are the horsehair ones (both pairs). I've got some Safe-Tecs coming next week (also 10oz). They feel great, I haven't had a problem with them.

Yeah, blame me. :icon_neut :icon_chee
Awesome gear. I was gonna get some Reyes pro fight gloves but they said the padding only works for 15 or so rounds then you can't use them anymore, I wasn't gonna pay 150 bucks or so on a glove like that. :icon_conf
What do you use them for and is the padding durable?

Yeah I know what you mean. I use these sparingly on the double end bag and occasionally on the mitts leading up to fights. I would say they last a lot longer than 15 rounds for that purpose.

BUT- the leather definately feels thinner (to save weight I imagine) so if there's one area they are would be short lived in, that would be it.

I'm doing a big Cleto Reyes review in the next few weeks after I've tried the Safe-Tecs. Stay tuned.

So instead of getting a pair of Cleto's and Grants, or even some more D3O gear, your recommend a pair of Winnings???

Dangit guys... I have plans to go skydiving and attend Phoenix Comic Con.... I NEED TO SAVE MONIES!!

I'm not sure what this word "save" means? I don't think I've heard it before in the G&E section. :icon_lol:

I hear it all the time, usually in this sentence "I'm going/need to save money to buy_____." haha

Just watched UFC Primetime with GSP and Jake Shields, there is sooo much winning gear, different color head gears, gloves, etc. It felt like I was watching a promo for winning.

Yeah a lot product placement in those episodes lol. Should I buy another pair next month...hmmm...

I think the leather is the same in both my Cleto fight gloves and the 16oz bag gloves. I've used the same pair horsehair fight gloves before for DE bag and pads for months and even years before. That being said, the training gloves are a better investment because of the multiple training purposes and I wouldn't use fight gloves for my main training gloves; just to gauge where I am at in my speed/technique.
I think the 15 or 30 round thing is for fights. The padding becomes more compressed and no longer safe for the fighters, I believe. They should last unless using on heavy bags and stuff. Just my opinion and experiences.

Look forward to your review on the safetecs!

Thanks for the input dude, good points. Love your sig too by the way!

I've been using the fight gloves for just a few months and so far they are holding up fine, I think your point about being safe for training for along time but only safe for fights up to 15 rounds is spot on and very insightful.

I've actually got the 16oz training glloves and the 10oz fight in front of me now. I think the leather looks thinner, but I'm starting to wonder if the wrinkles only seem that way because the horsehair padding underneath doesnt keep the leather on top as "puffed" out as all the foam padding on the training gloves.

Either way, I've never used the fight gloves on the heavy bag (and probably wouldn't) I like 16s for that. On mitts and DE I've always preferred 10oz gloves as they seem more conducive to technique where as heavy bag always feels like its a bit more strength and conditioning focused.

Then again I don't do much heavy bag work, I mostly do sparring and mitts leading up to fights and heavy bag work on longer periods away from competition.

Review coming soon.

Winning gloves ARE made of leather. :icon_conf

Not all of them, they also have fake leather gloves (those puffy ones). Although I do have to say that the leather on the white velcro Winnings especially in the palm area looks a bit weird and bunched up, usually the leather is very smooth and even. But they are the regular Winning velcro gloves so they must be leather. Maybe it's the color or something.

Yeah I know what you mean about the excess leather in the palm. This is my second pair and both were the same in this regard. My lace-ups arrived today and they dont seem to have that same issue. It's really just aesthetics though, it doesn't affect the gloves performance at all IMO.

The "soft type" gloves are indeed synthetic leather, but I doubt they sell many. The training gloves though, are top quality leather. Both velcro and lace-up.

In any case ,the Winning headgears are all synthetic, and they are great. People shouldn't confuse "synthetic" with "inferior" when it comes to Winning.

I actually prefer the leather Winning uses on their HG to the genuine leather of all the other headgears out there. Headgear doesn't take the same punishment gloves do on the bag, the Winning HG is not going to rip from those punches. Gloves would when you hit the bag with them, so I wouldn't buy fake leather gloves. But with headgear it doesn't matter. Especially since the leather Winning uses is about as durable or even more durable than the average genuine leather you see out there. Plus it feels way better and more comfortable, is easier to clean, lighter. What else can you ask for.

i just picked up a pair to be sacrified for gorilla science LOL

Do you plan on taking them apart stitch by stitch? If you do, please post pics.

Maybe we can work out a deal for the pattern pieces when you're done with your experiment. :)

Dream on ...not all of their top gloves are real leather .

Their velcro gloves, their lace-up training gloves and their fight gloves are all made of leather. The only ones which aren't are the "soft type" gloves mentioned.

In any case, the 2 pair I own are both leather, and they are both awesome.

The only dreaming going on is your dream to get some, otherwise you wouldn't be reading and posting in this thread now would you?

Why don't you post a review on your Grants champ so I can come and rain on your parade? :icon_twis
