"The House elects its speaker at the beginning of a new Congress (i.e. biennially, after a general election) or when a speaker dies, resigns or is removed from the position intra-term."
If I'm reading that correctly, a new Congress would start ~January 20th 2021, which would mean Pelosi would no longer be the Speaker of the House. But this stuff has been confusing me since the question first popped into my head.

But if there is no House (all terms expire on Jan 3rd) how can there be a Speaker?
 
The number of people to test positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 9am on Wednesday is 2,626, up from 1,950 at the same time on Monday, according to the Gov.uk website.

I haven't wanted to mention this, but the US has a State of Emergency/Continuity of Government Program that has historically been extralegal and unconstitutional, and we're not allowed to see it. Rep. Pete DeFazio (who was at the time on the Committee on Homeland Security) was twice denied SCIF access.

I wont be complaining too much if after a couple a weeks, with no major spikes in deaths/ hospitalization, we begin returning back to normal. However what I anticipate is that even if we dont see huge spikes this hysteria will be used to justify a continued shutdown and absolute trampling of our rights and freedoms not mention our jobs and small business.

Honestly the threat of the usa govt instituting a permenant overreach and society descending into chaos is every bit alarming as this virus.

The failure to elect a president causes procedures to kick in before the House terms expire, no? Like, they don't just sit on their thumbs until Jan 20th, they go into succession stuff while still in office.

As far as I've been able to dig up, no such provisions exist, though, as posted earlier, there appear to be a Continuity of Government Program, though that's apparantly top secret.

The Constitution is quite clear though:
"Twentieth Amendment

The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin."

People can't get tested. Guy from work has tried to get tested numerous times. He treid again today, but the testing site ran out of kits just 20 minutes after opening this morning.
