I think we all can basically agree that chauvin was responsible for George Floyd’s death to some degree. Some believe it was an overdose or some combination of drugs, poor health, and the struggle that killed floyd.
Personally, I believe that chauvin absolutely killed floyd, but the other things made it easier for that to occur. I 100% believe that he did not intend to kill or even seriously harm him, but his complete disregard for the suffering of another person is what led him to where he is, and consequently, where we all are with blm being rammed into every crevice and the state of policing today.
Floyds death led to months of protests, riots, and unprecedented levels of hate directed towards officers that led so many to retire or resign and is currently why I believe that our murder rates have skyrocketed. This is all on chauvin imo.
So, what sentence does he deserve? What is fair? He is facing a possible 30 to 65 year sentence with consideration for first time offender.
“Activists are hoping for the maximum sought by the state. “For someone who actually committed murder, if he only gets like 15 years, that’s unacceptable,” said Trahern Crews, founder and chief organizer for Black Lives Matter Minnesota, citing higher sentences handed down over the years to Black defendants for nonviolent crimes.”
So, if he doesn’t get a huge sentence, there will be unrest. However, I found multiple cases where black defendants were sentenced in Minneapolis to under ten years for murder that was intended. Some convicted of stabbing someone to death or shooting them. So again, what sentence should a man that likely did not mean to kill his victim deserve?
My thoughts are around ten years, but my guess is between 16-24 years for his actions.
Here are several instances where people that intended to murder their victim were sentenced to lenient sentences for murder-most had long criminal histories.
Here is one where a man kidnapped and murdered his ex and got eight years. White male, though. https://www.kcbd.com/story/35405972...-assault-murder-kidnapping-charges-dismissed/
