Before the cold war Cuba was a colony of the US, occupied and completely owned by American capital. Even Godfather 2 reflected those historical events.
Average cubans lived below poverty. That's why they fought for communist ideals.

What the fuck are you talking about? For once until the end of the Cold War it was ILLEGAL UNDER THE CUBAN LAW to invest in the first place, you know "profit is theft" and all that jazz, so it was illegal.

When the Soviet tit ran out and Cuba found that its system only works when you get free oil from the USSR and resell it to other countries at real market rates their country when to shit so they changed their law to get a lot of investment.

In the 90s tons of investment came and what happened? Cuban government stole it, like they did before, tons of debt went unpaid and countries cut their losses, there is still business being done with Cuba but there is no credit, since there is nobody stupid enough (with the exception of Mexico right now) that gives credit to Cuba.

And since the country produces NOTHING of worth there is no way to get hard cash to pay for stuff.

This is 100% the fault of socialism, go figure, people don't want to work for free, because funnily enough when communists said "under communism everything will be free" the only thing that became free is labor, things still cost money but you have to work for fake money.

What do you think happened in 2009-2010 during the "bailout"? Trillions of dollars were stolen from taxpayers' money and given to the banks.

I’m definitely not defending communism, but in those nice pictures of Cuba it was far from sunshine. The wealth distribution was insanely one sided with most Cubans living in poverty while the upper class exploited them. It’s how the revolution was able to take root. It’s also a small island so in the modern world it’s never going to be a wealthy place on its own. Only Taiwan has been able to break that rule of thumb.

But yeah communism has been an unmitigated disaster there. And no it is not the USAs fault

Distribution of resources in favor of small group by robbing the rest does not make prosperity.
Industrialisation and advances in sciences brought more prosperity to the world.

The west, first Europe, then the US enjoyed good life by colonization.
Once it stops, capitalism will fall.

Socialism doesn't work either. Human nature won't allow it.

Only a combination of free market/planned economy can function in a world with limited resources.

Escape is different from leave. "Escape North Korea", "escape Cuba". It's not like they got their passports stamped in the airport, flew to the US and green cards handed to them at the arrival gate.

It wasn't a shit hole in the sense the antebellum south wasn't a shithole. It looked nice looking nice doesn't equate to people being happy per say. I mean today capitalists make everything look ugly as they possible can but if they created beautiful buildings the system is hurting people all the same.

Escaping suggests they had committed crimes in the Batista era or were overtly ideologically opposed to Castro. Of course most Cubans you meet in the US will have nothing but bad things to say about it that's why they left. They were targeted for a reason they were not innocent people minding their own business until mean Castro came along and started bothering them.
