UFC 251: Usman vs. Masvidal (7/11)

Masvidal is way more about the $$$ than he is the belt.

I wonder if he got something put in the contract that guarantees him a certain payout even if he misses weight and it becomes a non-title fight (or God forbid Usman refuses to fight him).

He's not a huge WW so maybe the cut is easy for him and eating pizza 4 days out is fine. But...man IDK.

He's also on record saying he needs to cut 20 pounds.

I think the paiva/zhumagulov line is wide

Zhuma dec +242 seems like value to me

Paiva getting a bit too much love here for a guy that gets hit like he does and is at a perceivable grappling disadvantage

edit: I might have to walk back that grappling advantage comment. In all his fights I watched he’s typically the one getting taken down and seems to prefer the stand up. Even when he is on top he often ends up getting swept.

he’s going to be at a big reach disadvantage, which is typical for a guy listed at 5’5. I would’ve liked to get paiva at around evens but I still think zhuma dec at +242 has value

I also think he’s gotten the benefit of being the hometown fighter on a few iffy decisions

he’s sloppy at times, over committing to punches and trying to compensate to being out of position with spinning back fists. Also sloppy on the ground when he advances positions

So the sun rises when the main card starts. Brings a whole new element to the game if it shines on to the octagon. Favors the outside fighters if they can the sun at their back.

so all in on page and jorge lol. Both could miss weight on purpose.

Hey guys, new to the forum - longtime lurker first post.

Question, is the consensus on PVZ this weekend that she loses by decision and she has no shot at all? We know she hasn't fought in some time but one thing we can't account for is potential improvement in her game from having been gone so long. She looks like she's in shape and taking this seriously, and we know unless she wins - there won't be a raise that she's looking for from the UFC in the form of a new contract. I have a hard time believing this fight is so cut and dry as the odds would make it seem and she's not looking to make this a fight.

Am I missing something or maybe looking for something that isn't there? Ribas is good yes, but currently -8XX to -9XX good? This is borderline saying PVZ has no chance whatsoever in there? Right?

Ribas is gonna clown her en route to a finish imo, most likely a sub.

That's actually a dumb statement.

Yet you don't explain how?

Interesting.

There's a reason online casinos hand out bonuses like candy -- it's to entice you to put your money into their casino -- not to give you an advantage to make more money.

Im a ribas fanboy and betted her in her last 3 fights but this is flyweight and page is pretty big now. And there are those three idiots judgin this so value on the pretty girl. Maybe even has the sun advantage.

Yes, Gilbert and Marty also said that Jorge is a partier which tells me he isn’t the type of dude to stay in shape year round. If masvidal is looking soft at the weigh ins, house on usman.

Melo looks good in stand up and karol ate a ton of strikes from a tiny grappler. House on Melo. Karol is Jessicas main sparring partner so if somebody is a litle shot its karol

Jorge is a puppet master. Hes in best shape ever. Fooling everybody like he did asker.

o2.5 is only -150 for main event, I was expecting over -200 range. Might take some of that.

Yeah I think Masvidal is trying fuck with people. The Italian flag on the side of that jet makes me think it was headed to Italy whether he wanted pizza or not.

*EDIT Whoops looks like I got my flags flopped. Eh it was a fun idea.

Weird Espn shared a cropped version of the post without the flag though.

Masvidal said he doesn’t drink or party last year.

Not great for Jorge.

Ugh that's really bad news. Obviously he's been testing negative if they let him board the plane and leave, but the incubation time is for sure long enough that he could still test positive prior to Saturday.

IDK about the effect on not having Brown to corner him assuming the fight happens. Not gonna help, that's for sure.

Getting the belt IS money though. Don't the champs get PPV money?

I am not worried about Masvidal's diet or whatever. The guy is a pro and knows what it takes to fight and win. Has he every missed weight prior to this fight? He might have but I don't remember it. Even if he does miss weight it will be strategic on his part and probably be a good thing (in terms of him trying to win).
