In Canada the state can take legal action against parents who don't provide "gender-affirming" care, escalating to potentially removing the child from their custody and forcing the parents to use the child's pronouns. The insane are running the asylum.

Not a goddamn one of you believes that this is some natural, organic phenomenon. Where were all the girls who have no option but to kill themselves if people don't pretend that they are a boy (or a "non-binary") back when you were in high school?

We all know that being a teenage girl is a complete mindfuck. It has always lead to high rates of body hatred - eating disorders, self-harm etc. Things like unrealistic body images in the media and bullying have always been pointed to as culprits for that.

Now in the age of social media we see scores of teenage girls (in the same peer groups and who spend a lot of time following FtM social media influencers) straight up opting out of femininity, binding their breasts and demanding hormones to deepen their voice. Corporations, NGOs and politicians tell us that there's no way that this could be a media-fuelled social contagion like so many in the past, it's actually that your daughter has the gender-soul of a boy (or a "non-binary") and she will kill herself if she doesnt transition. Are we seriously to just believe this? An industry has been created out of this and a lot of people are making money, but is it better for our daughters? For society at large? I think a lot of you smug types who act like you're on the fence about this will have some 20/20 hindsight in a few years about what will go down as a massive medical scandal.

There's a few things to consider.

It could be that more young people are influenced, or it could be that some are more willing to seek out hormone therapy because of the way society views the issue. It could be pieces of both. The problem is that the numbers doesn't tell us anything about how many girls self-identity as another gender vs how many did in 97. It only tells us about how many go through hormone treatment, which is somewhat tied to legislation.

Either way it's a stark increase that needs to be looked into, especially to gauge how it reflects on the number of transpeople in reality and why these girls want to transition.

Seems like the Transgender rep mention in the article wants to get to the bottom of it as well:
