unlike Twitter, police departments generally have processes for vetting their information.
Him having a knife on scene isn't some information you need to "vet." I've never once scene a police shooting where they withheld information that the suspect was armed.
Please provide examples of this if you have any.
To me the late reporting seems to indicate that they did not discover the knife on the scene, but probably in a later search of the car. Which means it's presence is in no way an excuse for the police to shoot him since they didn't know about it at the time.
