Prime Nate Diaz beats the hell outta Gaethje

Gaethje has even better leg kicks than RDA..
Nate has improved though. Pettis is a good kicker, but he hurt his foot after Nate blocked his kicks.

I was thinking the same, except Nate can beat Garthje even nowadays imo. Stylistically he is a terrible match up for Justin.
Nate looks amazing against strikers, but as soon as he faces a wrestler with good sub defense, he looks average.

Prime Mothra beats out-of-prime Shin Godzilla.

These threads are so fucking stupid.

Wasteland this fairytale bullshit.

I dont understand this sentiment. We're talking about 2 fighters only a few years apart who have fought in the same weight class and even have common opponents. Its a fun way to analyze fighters and matchups. Meanwhile the sport itself promotes completely fantasy concepts like p4p. If you dont like this stuff thats fine too. Dont comment in these threads for those that do. Nobody is forcing you.

I would agree but not sure if hes the same fighter that showed up to the masvidal fight.

Prime Rickson vs Prime Saku.

The matchup isn't going to happen.

Don't they have PS4 games to live out these fantasies?

P4P is in the realm of reality.

I will continue to comment in any thread of my choosing but thanks for the useless advice.

When is this prime you speak of? I’m not bashing Nate as a fighter, but he has never been top of the heap. He is a great gatekeeper, but never was or will be championship material. Gaethje beat the hell out of Tony Ferguson for 5 rounds and Fergusons gas tank is endless. Sorry, but Nate either gets TKO’ed or loses by doctor stoppage just like The Masvidal fight. Nate has no way to get the fight to the ground and while his boxing is crisp he is very prone to getting hit and that is bad news with someone who throws bombs

You definitely can post in threads and topics you have zero interest in other than bashing it and everyone else can tell you youre an idiot. Gaethje vs diaz can still happen although unlikely, so its fun to analyze their skillsets.

Nate beat Michael Johnson by putting on a striking clinic but Gaethje had multiple near death experiences vs johnson. I dont think nate should be fighting WWs at this point in his career. He should be fighting at LW. Really Tony is the only guy gaethje beat but nate wouldnt. Stylistically though a brawler with cardio issues is the perfect matchup for nate.

Thats not to say that Diaz was necessarily the better fighter but i think he'd have Gaethje's number stylistically. Nick and Nate Diaz thrive on people tiring themselves to knock them out and are almost impervious to leg kicks.

I think Nate walks through Gaethje's shots, taunts and walks him down, slaps the hell outta him and then TKOs an exhausted Gaethje. Even after he changed his style, i still dont think Gaethje would be disciplined enough to stop himself from punching himself out.
Gaethje leg kicks. The Diazs don't know how to check a leg kick. Easy win for Gaethje.

I agree and I do recall that fight with Michael Johnson. I don’t really get why Nate ever fought at WW other than McGregor’s unwillingness to cut weight. I understand the Masvidal and McGregor fights were for the money, but he is definitely a Le. That being said, we may only see Nate fight once more if that because of his diva attitude and unwillingness to compromise in negotiations.

Talking about realistic hypotheticals between current fighters isnt as big of a fantasy as youre making it out to be. Journeyman is also a phrase thats misused a lot by the fanbase. Prime nate was a contender who deserved a titleshot. Legitimate Contenders arent journeyman.

Not really, legit contenders are a match for the champion, Nate got dominated by Bendo

No the champion can just be better than them. Legitimate just means if you earned your place. Thats why the ranks have the champ as seoerate followed by 10 contenders.

I want to preface this by saying that I don't like the "Justin 2.0" moniker for a number of reasons, but I'll use it just because it's what a lot of people recognize. This fight is interesting because depending on the "versions" of each that you use, they counter each other very effectively in either direction. I'll try to illustrate what I mean.

If this was Justin prior to the Dustin (or Eddie) bout, then I'd favor Nate and pretty heavily at that. Justin would go out there and try to finish Diaz on the feet early, especially if Nate got in his head with a slap, trash talk, flipping him the bird, etc. Justin would land some hard shots, with the most significant ones being his leg kicks. Nate would outbox him steadily, though he'd probably lose the first round. Justin would ultimately gas out trying to knock Nate's head off, whiffing on a lot of his shots with Diaz pulling way ahead on the total/significant strike counters and his gas tank looking to be in much better shape. Unless he manages a doctor stoppage or leg kick TKO, Justin ends up getting TKO'd or submitted late in the fight (or losing a lopsided Decision like Johnson did). Nate is a bad stylistic match-up for punch-drunk brawler Gaethje. I'd favor Nate at ~70/30 on this, give or take. Not impossible for Justin to win simply because of his leg kicks, but certainly not looking great for him IMO.

Using "Justin 2.0" with his head screwed on relatively straight and Trevor in his ear, I think he takes it more often than not. He showed five-round cardio against Tony so long as he's able to keep the fight on the feet and land clean shots. His boxing is improved (though you wouldn't know it from the haymakers he was winging at Khabib). Nate is still the better boxer of the two, but I feel the gap is sufficiently narrowed that we would see a dynamic like Holloway vs. Poirier, where even when Max was outlanding Dustin, the latter's strikes clearly had more oomph behind them which clearly resounded with the judges. And again, the leg kicks. Nate even in his prime never fully "solved" the leg kick dynamic, while Justin for all his flaws is acknowledged to be one of the most dangerous leg-kickers in the sport today. That's a bad combination.

I don't think it's at all unreasonable to believe that with his slightly improved boxing, more conservative approach toward his gas tank, and signature leg kicks that Gaethje would be able to stay ahead on the scorecards of each round by simply by landing the more impactful shots. So long as he doesn't gas, the main threat would be a Hail Mary sub -- he's defended himself against submission specialists taking his back in WSOF, but none of those were Nate. However, since the Diaz bros don't wrestle, the sub attempt would have to come during some kind of scramble and Justin has shown himself to have pretty good kinesthetic awareness and speed during those types of situations. I think he wins a comfortable Decision, maybe dropping a round as his output slacks off late in the fight or if he makes some kind of mistake. Failing that, maybe he wins a late TKO/doctor's stoppage.

Nate can't check a leg kick to save his stash of weed.

he was a contender for talking good shit, and having a good family name. RDA destroyed him, benson destroyed him. Justin would just low kick him for 25 minutes and CTE the shit out of him. Justin don't get tired, unless you wrestle.

It would look like Gaejthe vs Tony. Though I think even worse. Maybe Diaz wouldn't go out, but he would get 10 shades of hell beaten out of him.

prime and nate diaz dont go together

his best times was against cans when he was 22
