Wearing a mask has eradicated the Flu! Flu cases are almost nonexistent

This isn’t surprising. But it might not be a good thing in the long run. Our immune systems need practice. If we aren’t exposed to various cold and flu viruses, then our antibodies won’t know to kill them when we do get exposed. I could see that being a potential problem.
Thats my big fear.

Im usually okay with getting a cold or flu, but now im scared :( because of the scary stories and deaths related to Covid

before if I got sick it was no big deal id just fight it out, drink soups, stay home for a few days watch movies.

But now if I get sick im scared what if this is the dreaded covid now?

I know people who Rarely get sick, I heard it all depends on your youth, if you got sick as a child form the flu that means your immune system was boosted early and as long as you eat healthy you have a super immune system. They were talking about how kids should play outdoors and not video games all day to get exposed to germs in elementary

that is also one of the fears that kids are not exposed to germs right now being home schooled on zoom so their immune systems are not practicing fighting viruses and germs.

There was a bit of promising hopeful news a month ago some scientists believe Covid will be less lethal as herd immunity comes around as more people get covid and get vaccines. I hope thats the case

What about not being a gigantic pussy and not wanting to infect the 1% over the sake of a weeny bit of material?
Doesn't justify all the damage to the economy and the vast majority of the population that are not high risk.

If you are a high risk individual, then you self quarantine, you limit your exposure, YOU take responsibility for YOUR own situation.

It's nice that you are willing to destroy society to save some old people, but I believe your sentiments are misplaced.

I got the flu every year except last year. I am certain me and most everyone wearing masks was the reason.
So you'll continue to advocate masks going forward regardless of covid-19?

I rather get the flu which I get like every 10 years than wear a face diaper all the time.

You're supposed to wear a mask, not a nappy on your face! No wonder you're upset about it you big face baby!

I think the social distancing and handwashing had more of an impact than wearing of masks. Isn't it your hands that make you get sick? Your hands touch everything and then touch your face.

Not to mention cold and flu show a positive covid test.

That's bullshit spread on social media. There is a small chance at best of PCR test picking up a cold or flu and it's more likely to score negative.

With the rarer antibody testing being a higher chance but still miniscule.

You just spread this stuff because you have a narrative it fits, you don't bother to check it because it facilitates your world view. Then you try and spread your feeble assessment of the world to others.

Tsk tsk.

Mask stops you touching your face!

I hate wearing a mask but I can’t argue that it prevents illness. Having young kids I usually get sick multiple times each winter and I haven’t even had a common cold so far this year.

I also think if anything this pandemic has showed us how nasty we live. By washing hands more frequently and sanitizing work spaces we’ve cut out a lot of stuff.

Your statement brings up points that I've thought of concerning illness and seasonal flu in 2020 / 2021. We're seeing enhanced sanitary measures at work, gas stations, restaurants, etc. which will surely help combat the spread of illness.

At work my parking lot now sees at most 50 cars a day where 300 or more was the norm. The building is at 1/4 staffing if not less. Most of the adults with school age children are teleworking from home.

Co-workers that do have school aged children are dealing with kids that haven't been at school in the urban "Petri dish" environment with their fellow plague bringers. This is a big deal for me as the people that work in my building travel from a multitude of areas, some as far as 1 hour away or greater. This usually means that we have multiple people who are in contact with children in a school that is experiencing a run of illness.

Flu cases have been down throughout the whole year. The first indication of this was the southern hemisphere who were in flu season during our spring/summer, and saw record falls in the number of cases. New Zealand was one such a country that did not advocate for widespread mask wearing (although they do have mask mandates now). Whilst there is evidence that masks can help reduce infection spread, I believe that the social distancing and general awareness of a personal duty of infection control, eg. hand washing and widespread use of sanitiser are more likely to be behind this. Another theory thats been proposed is that covid has out-competed flu, where infection with the former reduces the chances of becoming infected with the latter.

But why only one mask I heard you're supposed to wear two, it's common sense Dr. Fauci said! I mean if two is good why not 3? Hell why not 10?

Mask stops you touching your face!
If anything it causes people to touch their face more. How many times a day does the average person stuff their mask down into their dirty crusty pocket only to pull it back out and put it on their face to enter an establishment?

You huh? It’s common knowledge.

Yes. Some doctor said he never got sick since he stopped picking his nose with dirty hands, he said its a habit sometimes he would feel something itching in his nose while writing at his desk at the hospital and would pick it with his finger and thats when he would get sick.

the two ways is inhaling the virus when someone sneezes and it travels to you, or picking nose with dirty hands or wiping the eye booger with dirty fingers. Wash hands folks.

I think its the mask, most people dont even social distance in my area or wash their hands, and in LA county we got record covid cases. I see people lined up at chic fil a only two feet apart and then when they eat under the tent they eat without washing their hands.

i eat fast food all the time mainly because i work shipping and travel from city to city and people do not social distance at all, i was in line at this burger joint a week ago and i had to tell the mexican woman behind me to stand on the dot she was right on my back and her mask was down not covering her nose. People Only wear masks because its mandated. Social distance helps big time but its hard to enforce as well as handwashing people dont like to wash they are lazy. Several businesses in my area had to temp close because workers tested positive for covids.

Two? Is
Fauci trolling? Lol you will suffocate, i can barely breath with the disposables, you cant even blow a candle out while wearing one, if you wear two you will surely have trouble breathing.

dude doesnt even Wear a mask, he only does it for show he was without a mask at the baseball game and during Trumps briefings.

HEY! Where's all the support for people to stop eating junk food and garbage all the time? Why do I never see threads or support for that?
Oh look more whataboutism. Maybe a worldwide pandemic that's possible to spread rapidly to others isn't the same as obesity that isn't possible to spread to others.

What an inane comparison.

I think im going to continue wearing masks, they should make them mandatory for sporting events and concerts. even if they get covid in check at sporting events or places with large gatherings it helps prevent the flu at least.

Flu cases near historic lows during Covid-19 pandemic
https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2021/01/25/flu-cases-near-historic-lows-during-pandemic/

I get the flu vaccination every year and haven't had the flu in close to 15 years . . . just had my second COVID shot yesterday.

Wearing masks to avoid spreading your illnesses, kind of like they do in multiple countries in Asia every year?

I could get behind that, it's a good idea. I didn't get so much as a cold through the whole of winter.

Do you get any annual vaccinations?

If someone sneezes or coughs persistently they should frisk them for tylenols etc and check their temperature.

Allergies are a thing . . .

If they tried to sneak into a casino, movie theater, or event with flu or cold or covid they should make it punishable by law, to get it through their heads a lot of people are inconsiderate and will go out to crowded venues while sick touching, coughing and spread germs. We must punish them with a hefty fine and possible jail time just to get the point across and take it serious ya know.

Yikes . . . why focus solely on casinos, theaters or other events? Crap is spread at work as much as anywhere.

What do you think brother?

Do you want to live in a perpetual public health emergency?
