Yes. It’s a silly fine but it only applies to stores with 500 or more employees.

This doesn’t apply to the mom and pop stores and Target can easily put the hot wheels on one side of the aisle and Barbie dolls on the other. It’s really no big deal unless the law states they have to just put all the toys into disorganized free for all

California lawmakers are considering a bill that would penalize department stores for separating children’s toys, clothing and other items by gender.

Under CA AB2826 (19R), introduced by Assemblyman Evan Low, D-Campbell, department stores with 500 or more employees would be subject to a $1,000 fine if they do not “correct a violation of these provisions within 30 days of receiving written notice of the violation.”

I've never been in a store that had an isle for "boy toys". This bill is stupid for so many reasons, but the biggest is that stores just put the barbies and ponies together on 1 isle and the nerf guns and action figures on another. We as shoppers just assume that those are girl or boy sections.

There's only one "toy" kids need. It teaches them responsibility, gets them outside, develops hand eye coordination and a respect for the difference between a toy and a tool when taught appropriately. Most big toy stores in Russia dont separate per se. Like, they have a shelf of barbie dolls, a shelf of plushies, a shelf of toy cars, shelf of legos. Not like there is a BOYS or GIRLS sign anywhere. They do, of course, separate clothing.

Last time I looked the only thing the stores did was put toys that would be of interest to boys or girls in separate places next to each other. I never saw one section labeled boys and the other girls.
