Opinion Why are college educated people more liberal?

I knew you were going to bring up unions and minimum wage next, litterly always the leftist talking point when talking about the working class.

Unions can hurt just as much as they help, and end up being corrupted by lobbying very often also. Complex topic but certainly not this obvious virtue struggle that you people frame it to be.

Raising the minimum wage to 15 dollers an hour would lead to job loss, would hurt low skilled workers even more, would raise the price on consumer goods and wouldn't even put a dent in poverty.

Its almost like context matters. This is exactly why your side has lost the blue collar workers, delusion.

mcdonalds workers should be paid 15$ an hour. they are paid minimum wage here and still manage to survive. im not saying unions havent gone a bit too crazy with wages but low skilled workers paid a decent wage will only benefit the economy.

It’s interesting because data shows the more educated you are the more you tend to lean left. The more wealthy you are, the more you lean right. The more educated you are the more wealthy you tend to be. Kind of a oddity that those 3 statements are all true. Maybe college is more popular these days and more young people are going because younger people tend to lean left but maybe they haven’t had a long enough to accumulate wealth or college is just less valuable these days with respect to making good money.
There are a lot of seemingly contradictory things like that. Women are more religious than men and religious people tend to be more conservative, yet women are more likely to be liberal than men. Black people are more religious and socially conservative than white people, yet are much more politically liberal. Black women are probably the most religiously reliable people in the US, yet they're the least likely to vote Republican. But overall, religious people vote Republican. Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts...

i was told by me ol momma that in college i would get marked on how well i wrote and not on my opinion. May have been true when she went to university.
I got a zero on a 2,000 word essay regarding how the government should treat natives. My prof wrote 2,400 words in red ink, not one of them to do with grammar, sentence structure or punctuation. Funny thing was i was a big liberal then, and i was writing as though i were my ‘bigoted’ uncle to test out how my mom’s words would hold up.
Anyways, it didnt bother me, then, as i wasnt enjoying school anyways, and i forgot about it, but when i hear the Jordan Peterson’s of the world speak now, it makes me wonder if that was one prof or the way things were.
That was 1994.
While I'm sure the zero grade was politically motivated to a large extent, you still make a lot of writing errors. You should also use better spacing between paragraphs. Not trying to be a dick, but since you introduced the topic...

FWIW, I was basically a "centrist" and not particularly political when I was in college, but a feminist professor gave me a bad grade once because I refused to blindly accept her anti-porn bullshit. Not even because it was anti-porn (you can make a fact-based argument for/against porn in an academic setting), but because there was such little evidence to support it (she was claiming that having a porn store in a neighborhood was basically responsible for all of the crime in the area, which I thought was ridiculous).

Are engineering majors overwhelmingly liberal? What about law? What about business majors?

people who dont go to college have to live in the real world sooner so they learn about taxes and working for your money sooner and care more about were and who their money goes to. liberals are living in a bubble for 4-8 years and everything they believe is in theory and not as it is applied in real life.

Conservatives are dumb fucks, all there's too it.

School was too hard and they couldn't get into college so they invented a marxist conspiracy to excuse their own failure
I bet I make more money than you. Let's play big bank takes little bank

He doesn't know what I'm talking about.

For most people (myself included), it is quite easy. You enter college / university with a rather leftist stance, then you leave university and get a job and see how much of it goes away when you pay taxes. Honestly with my first job I had a higher salary than I thought I would ever see based on what I studied.

Then you enter your 30s, which is when most people want a house and a family. Again two things where taxation doesn't exactly do what you want.

So the left/right thing is a natural progression and known for years. And in my experience, both extreme liberal and conservative stances soften with increased exposure to people outside your ingroup.

You were at University to learn about Grammar, sentence structure & punctuation?
so, what are you saying here?

You should be able to write properly in a writing class, no? 2,400 words because my opinion wasnt acceptable. Zero words regarding how I wrote, or how i argued. I guess I could have mentioned that. There was nothing regarding flaws in my logic, but rather that natives have suffered therefore I am a bigot for thinking they

haha, thanks for the corrections!

As a person with over twice as many letters after my name as in it, i can't say I felt most courses pushed a left wing narrative.

The one strain of subjects which did push me further left was economics. Nothing came close.

It was really interesting to note how most of the best economists are strongly left leaning. Joseph Stiglitz being a classic example (Nobel prize for economics, and in my view the real father of the Index Fund)

My education was however strongly skewed away from the humanities. Business, Finance, accounting being mentioned in every qualifications name.

I would like to know how many of those with strong views actually experienced a reasonable amount of university directly.

Higher levels of Education tends to lean towards more money made, this is a fact. It’s why I pointed out that data is kind of a conundrum because it’s doesn’t add up.

If all you care about is money you will likely accrue more money. If you care about other things you will devote your resources accordingly.

Do you think it's due to liberal professors brainwashing students? Or that people with more knowledge tend to have more nuance and sympathy for others who are different from them?
i think it's the slant of the academics but they aren't really "liberal" in my mind, talking about the young students, they don't know what the fuck they are being taught. I don't know, i went to university at 37 and had a totally different background and I resented the hell out of those people trying to describe a world they had not contact with. Most of the profs and damn near all of the students, speaking if it were those kinds of classes. I used to attack the profs by telling them if they meant what they said they wouldn't even be teaching there.

Mostly garbage takes that reads like someones reductionist tribal blogpost, so far. The inability to put in even the slightest effort and resort to regurgitate talking points instead, never ceases to amaze.
