Cheyanne Buys: “I’ve been so broke my whole life because of this sport!”

“Negative in the account right now”

No, you were broke because you don’t know how to manage money and have no desirable skills for a real job.
100% agreed.

Fight pay should be better but alot of these athletes are 100% delusional with how the real world works.

Reminds me of Jessica Penne when she basically said "I had to drive Uber to pay bills, how degrading" when she literally had 1 pro win in the last 7 years........

I wouldnt call it sex work, because you're just not making physical contact with any of those skanks on Onlyfans, it's just a con scheme a lot of apes that love to empty their wallets, when they can just watch naked women on the regular pornsites.
I"ve personally known alot of women that do sexual based work (onlyfans, erotic dancing, fetish based work) and they all identify as sex workers.

It's a weird grey area. Even if you don't physically perform the act on the person paying your work/purpose is literally based on the sexual satisfaction of someone else

MMA fighters don't know how good they got it and how lucky and blessed they are these days

I was heavily involved in King of the Cage events from 1999-2003 in rigging set-up, and the fighters who are not main-event got between $100 - $500 and 500 was the MAX, and I knew of a few fighters who begged and begged to fight on the card for free because they wanted to get their name out there and feet wet.

Yep,

and if you managed to negotiate the $500 max pay outta them you were def fighting one of the toughest bastards on the card too. You really had to earn it LoL

notice she said sport not UFC, she only has like 2 UFC fights so obvious she ain't gonna go frome broke to Donald Trump in 2 fights
if she keeps this up though things will change

I agree, it is all but impossible to make a living on the regional scene which is why some people coming into UFC have been fighting so regularly. The low pay just means you have to fight more.

But to be fair 10K + 10K for win for the co-main event is pretty pathetic. That is like 2 months pay for a decent paying job and you have all the extra costs with being a fighter like paying for camp. If she does the standard UFC fight twice a year that is only 40K a year. Not enough to live on let alone set yourself up for a life outside of fighting.
I agree with what your saying but $20,000 every two months is a "decent paying job"? Lmao

Maybe she should’ve picked a different career.

People whining and crying about their salary are the worst. Shut the fuck up. You weren’t the first or the last to start at the bottom.

Bad example

This is her second fight in the UFC. The first one she won

She was broke because of fighting on the regional scene

A better example would be a UFC vet who has racked a lot fans/wins and is still broke
Not only that she has way more amateur fights then pro (her amateur career is like almost double the length as her pro).

You don't ever hear college athletes who have been doing there respective sports for over a decade say "uhhh playing this sport makes me poor". It's like no fucking shit, did you think junior high and highschool was going to pay you ? (lol)

Did you even watch the interview? She says she doesn't regret it.

That is 120K a year. You can barely afford to get a mortgage on a crappy house on that in Australia. I earned a similar amount in a mid level management role in a museum. In Sydney train drivers who do it full time earn over 100K. (Note: there is an exchange rate difference with the aussie dollar worth slightly less than the us dollar (about 75-85% depending on cycles).

Well make it 20K for 3 months. That would make your yearly 80K. The most she could realistically fight in a year is 3 times so that would be 60K.

Amazing how she blames MMA for being broke. Tons of fighters in the 90s and 2000s had a side hustle or promoted a business on the side. They were either personal trainers or they had some gig on the side that was enhanced by being an MMA fighter.

The very origin of MMA and kickboxing revolved around building the name of your dojo or your name as an instructor so you can go out and give seminars and offer workshops to the martial arts community.

I don't understand why she is not doing that!?

She did instruct classes in Fortis MMA before moving back to Vegas

Thats good, the whole UFC was to promote the Gracie style. Gokor Chivichyan fought MMA to promote judo/sambo. Many kickboxers fight to promote their karate/kickboxing dojo. Even Ken Shamrock at one point was fighting to promote his Lions den shootfighting academy and lines of merchandise. He abandoned it half way for pro wrestling.

Point is, MMA and price fighting outside of boxing is really a marketing platform.

Lol this thread is full of people saying that she's complaining.

If they actually watched the video she literally says "but it's so worth it to me" right after the clickbait quote in the thread title.

She isn't complaining, she's talking about the reality of life as an up and coming MMA fighter.

Man I've been broke my whole life cause I can't live within my means...

Well partially true - I got wise and made sure I could slack on life and still live above my means...

50+ has been almost as fun as the first 50...
Elaborate if you can, got me confused haha

No one forced her to choose MMA as her career. If she was not making money she should have got a different job.

That converts to about 88,000 US dollars.
Average income here is like, less than $40,000 lol.
Between 40,000 and 60,000 USD would be a decent career here.

Either way, a UFC fighter should be making enough money for high level training, nutrition, supplements, and a decent quality of life imo. They make pennies.
