Why the distinctions? Just curious.

Psychiatrist can prescribe medications and has to understand, diagnose and treat neurological and hormonal imbalances/diseases.

Psychologists can understand the brain, but cannot medically prescribe anything. You also don’t have to have a doctorate to be a psychologist. This is still a no, but at the least you can “treat” conditions based on your training.

Sociologist just studies people. You can have your doctorate in sociology, but that doesn’t mean you’re a doctor.
