International Taliban officially announce new government, invites world powers

how do you say the rest of the world will still see us as evil without saying ti
The Taliban on Monday gave an early glimpse of its foreign policy and geopolitical alignment as it invited Russia, China, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar to attend an event on its looming government formation.

lmao

north korea is possibly more evil and less merciful and they are recognized by the world.

those are the countries that have officially recognized the regime.
you can't really invite those that haven't.

Sure, but dont take it too seriously, I was just making fun. When people think evil countries, they will usually mention a bunch of those

I wouldnt support us being allies with these guys but I'm also not hostile to them. I dont care. It's unfortunate for the Afghan people but they had some insane amount of moneys worth of US military equipment and just got rolled over or walked away. They just don't value democracy enough to fight for it. Maybe these are the only guys capable of running that place. If they dont fuck with us I'm really just not in the mood to fuck with them. And if China wants to take a turn dealing with that place I say they can have it.

Not really a fan of this hardline govt - Not to mention no diversity. Almost entirely Pashtun one Tajik. No Haraza. No Uzbeks. No women. hope it's really temporary or they can kiss any Western Support goodbye and that's bad news for the masses who are facing food and medical insecurity not to mention crushing poverty. The West gave Afghanistan 75% of it's GDP. Granted most stayed in the Kabul Bubble and also was shipped to off shore accounts in Dubai and Switzerland. But still were fed and had medicine..

Its gonna take some getting used to seeing a member of the Taliban sitting on the panel with all the other nations' leaders during world discussions, isn't it.

That is specifically why they kowtow to China, they know they have no economy and need a sugar daddy to replace the US, and hopefully get their mineral extraction running in the absence of conflict.

Still, China is viewed as this economic juggernaut but every time they try to step in where the US has left (at least in international organizations) their contributions pale in comparison.

The Afghan people are going to have to tighten their belt. Hopefully stability allows economic growth but I doubt it. The country isn’t being controlled by open-minded forward thinkers and it is not a guarantee that they have pacified the entire country for the long term.

Yeah I mean fuck, you guys remember 2001 Afghanistan before we invaded? Shit was amazing yo
Yea the before and after pictures blow my mind unlike those 1970’s pic of Afghan before the hardcore Islamic rule .. those girls were not happy in those freedom looking pictures and ability to wear what you want

What democracy? You mean the puppet government that was elected with 20% voter turn out, that left their soldiers without pay for months, and that fled to their apartments in Istanul and Dubai? Would you fight for them? I wouldn't.
I wonder how long until Biden hosts a Taliban emissary in the White House. In late 2001, the idea of that would get you laughed out of the room, at the very least. 20 years later, here we are.
40 years ago, here's where we were

Asked, given the catastrophe unleashed upon Afghanistan and the subsequent growth of Islamist terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, whether he regretted the policy he championed in Afghanistan, Brzezinski replied:

“Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter: We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam War. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.”

Asked specifically whether he regretted the CIA’s collaboration with and arming of Islamist extremists, including Al Qaeda, in fomenting the war in Afghanistan, Brzezinski responded contemptuously: “What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?”

Brilliant idea that was.

There's no way this whole thing isn't intentional. It's the setting up of much larger conflicts...

Wonder if George Bush has weighed in on any of this? Not that I care about his opinion but he's the purveyor of the "war on terror" (or the figurehead anyway) and this appears to be "terror's" triumph...

I get that and I’m not trying to put blame on anyone. I just don’t want it to be my problem. The war mongering media tells us how awful it is for the people that the Taliban has taken over as if we should have stayed forever or even that we should go back. But I don’t see any point in fighting to protect people from the Taliban if they won’t fight them themselves. It seems like they are mostly ok with it I guess. If the Taliban fails to give people the standard of living they’ve had since the government was in place there will be complaints. There will probably be constant fighting and maybe one day the people will realize there is a better way.

Fuck no they don't want democracy. They did a pew poll in Afghanistan and 99% wanted Sharia law. That's probably why only 2% of population voted for president Ghani. 600,000 votes of 40,000,000 people says it all.

its a symbolic gesture, but we probably gonna see this more and more

where developing nations turn away from the west and their conditional cooperation where social and political changes must be implemented or the deal is off

and turn to countries like russia and china where its strictly business and they don't get lectured about "human rights"
I feel this is going to become more and more common. Also doesn’t help that we don’t have a functioning culture to impart upon them
