Television Cobra Kai Season 5 Releases Tomorrow (Get Hyped)

Who? The main leads are mid 20. The Asian girl is probably early 20 something. The girl Miguel was with at the party was 18. <Moves>

Hold that thought.

Date in 2022 is rubbish. The culture tries to masculine women. Tiktok and e bragging about body count. Not funny after 30 when she can't land a husband nor find employment after ethot. The free attention suddenly disappears.

At least it's conservative there. Montreal and Toronto are a leftist nightmare. I've been to Vancouver. I noticed people were fitter. He'll, Montreal is cultured. Fine dining and awesome night life plus after hour party locations. Out west is superb for the outdoors. I worked out in Stanley Park. Met some girls. It was a great time. The mountains are nice. I learned snowboarding on blackcomb in whistler village. West Cost is better than east coast. I like our night life better but I'd rather bring up a family in the west coast.

LA gets people rekt. Couldn't imagine living in Cali. Texas or Florida.

I guess it changed since I went. A girl I met on vacation picked me up. Drove me to whistler. She was a yoga instructor. Early 20 something. A road was closed on route to Whistler due to a avalanche. Don't get that here.

It's possible that I saw things through rose color glasses due to my companion and week together with her. <Moves>I explored and I'd still argue west coast is better. That Jion Ghmeshi #metoo broke on the east coast. That's an example of what fuck shit goes on in the east coast.

[Quite]Regarding PTSD, sure but Terry also has PTSD but seems to manage it as well. Miyagi prequel is in works and there was a talk about incorporating Master Kim Sun Yung and Sato in as well. I am not sure if its in development phase but its been the talk since mid-2021. So over a year now.

I got chills listening. I just hope they don't go full retard with woke and gender politics. Ruin it like they did cowboy bebop.

this isn't a attempt to internet tough guy.

I remember sparring a mofo with that sort of build. I got punched in a counter. It was gross body shot. The worst. knuckles drag on the ground. The build reminds me of Sam Elliot in road house.

Yeah. Kicks were cool. I like the cute Asian girl. I was surprised by her kick pad work. It's still woke and annoying but well done and delivered.[/QUOTE]

I meant the two female Sherdoggers.

That being said, Vancouver is the ultimate woke or fat acceptance hell hole!

Like if there was no tourist I would legit peace out from life. It is pretty nightmarish. Its different if you are a tourist but for citizens, its a nightmare unless you have a social circle.

Terry or Thomas has really good Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do.

For those that didn't see it, there was a thread last week about an actor - Michael Schoeffling, who went from national and international level wrestler to A-list model and actor (co-starred in Sixteen Candles, Vision Quest, et al) then walked away from all of that at age 30... to run a business handcrafting furniture, which he apparently still does to this day.

Cobra Kai writers read Sherdog confirmed. This dude is a real life Mike Barnes.

My buddy stayed. He's still in BC. Kelowna I believe. Met a girl. Broke up. Got engaged recently. Loves the lifestyle there. Tbh I could see raising a family there vs east coast.

After the fuck shit the past 2 years, our cold af weather, taxes, insane dictators that morons keep voting in, peace out seems to be the best alternative. At least, acquire a second citizenship and or passport.

My buddy wanted to go to med school. He started coding in the pandemic. He hasn't looked back. He went to U BC. Remote work seems to be the play going forward.

kickers are gross. There's taekwondo black belt at my martial arts club. It's super transferable to skill set. Super cool.

I'm curious what all the arts the cast know and practice. I would love a cameo appearance in season 6 by a jet li or someone for jokes.

What would you like to see for season 6?

Mike Barnes was a piece of shit in the movies but likeable on season 5. I liked the character development.

I liked Johnny more than Danny on the show.

My only criticism is that, Johnny actually celebrated Danny holding his trophy in the movie. to think he became a dead beat after taking 1 L is a bit silly. Regardless, I really liked the show.

I just hope they finish strong. Hollywood usually slips like GoT or Prison Break. Strong start. Poor finish. Here is to hoping.

Kuch was an international level wrestler...?!? I never would've guessed it; he plays the part of a guy who lost his Varsity spot so convincingly I just naturally ascribe that level of ability to him. Wow. What a beast.

Vancouver is a very beautiful place and we used to have hot young women and after 2019, placed went to shit. People look angry as fuck. Prices are going up and up. I either see hogs or hags. One girl I befriended was a decent looking 23 year old from Toronto. But I realized she was super hot compared to all the fatties and oldies.

Came to the realization that looks is very relative to the people around you. If everyone looks like shit, then a decent looking chick will look like a perfect 10 even though she might average in another place.

Kicks are weird man because I stopped boxing and starte training Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. I noticed all the kicking, stretching, jumping and switching turned me in to a super athlete of sorts.

Like when I returned to boxing, I could do some serious shit with spinning out of the way and switching as well as bouncing around nonstop. That shit helps with grappling because it gives you fast feet which can mean good trips and throws.

Great question about season 6. I am at a loss for word to be honest with you. I mean the way season 5 ended, it felt like a conclusion.

I honestly expected Mike Barnes background to be completely different. My prediction of Mike Barnes was:

Gets banned from karate but goes to kickboxing and then MMA. From there, Mike becomes a champ in MMA. Puts Karate on the MMA map as a great martial arts and overall becomes a well respected early 90s era kickboxing and MMA fighter.

Becomes a trainer, turns out to be a very good trainer but not the best at running a gym. Goes broke and one day, he gets a phone call from Terry Silver who offers him an opportunity to "finish what they started"

In my version, Mike is well respected as a former fighter and trainer but lacks the ability to have a profitable dojo. Thus Terry Silver could be his chance at making real money. In this version, he is not an asshole but rather he is in a conflicted situation, he has no anger towards Daniel but he also has been cornered in which he is once again an antagonist to Daniel but without the anger or hate like before. Now in my scenario, Mike has to deal with his inner conflict of financial success or morally sound decisions and find a way to balance things out which is the theme of the show.

But now as a furniture store owner, its nothing to add to be honest. Mike is a legacy character but his current occupation is irrelevant to karate.

Regarding the bold part. I believe what happened is resentment taking over. He probably had no problem losing to Daniel but it was not just losing to Daniel but rather losing his sensei due to the incident which took after the loss that started brewing up and over years that memory of a loss was not just losing a karate fight but losing his mentor and father figure which the real trauma was the parking lot incident.

Had Kreese been a cool about the loss, Johnny would still be in cobra kai. No one would leave the dojo, Johnny would continue to train harder than ever for whatever tournament was next and probably would get in to kickboxing and then continue the cobra kai training. In this scenario, Kreese and Johnny would have their moments of conflict but probably would over come it and move on. Not gonna lie, the parking lot incident was extremely bad!

Your surfer coach is the best coach and this is how training should be.

To give you a sense of how he came across, I just googled him and the first hit is an old alumni chatroom where some female former students, 20 years after graduating, were still gushing about how hot he was.

These are the actual online posts:

Ok.... I have been reading about all the cutie patootie teachers and I HAVE to contribute.... This subject crosses ALL classes... I just saw mention of John Bree... He was my math teacher and VERY good looking. He was nice enough to wear shorts almost every day too.. :)

Dude was married and never did any funny business with the students AFAIK, but anyone who didn't have to endure his wrestling practices thought he was the coolest, chillest (and apparently hottest) dude around. I remember half the girls in school had a crush on him. You da man, Coach Bree!

Yeah Johnny is for sure more likeable than Daniel. The original premise of the show was Daniel was the villain and Johnny the hero. Agree they retconned it a bit with Johnny being bent out of shape for years, after congratulating Daniel in good faith at the tournament. But I suppose he could have reconsidered after dwelling on it - and the series does a good job with Daniel being annoying and everywhere with his auto dealer commercials lol.

Really hoping they close it out as well as it's gone so far. This is one of the few shows out now that doesn't suffer from a forced woke agenda - Johnny proudly drinking and driving, etc.

Didn't he only temporarily lose his spot? Louden beat him for 178 enroute to dropping to 168 to wrestle Shute. From the whistle, Kuch circles and ties up like an experienced wrestler to Modine's herky jerky movements, but they cut away so the skill disparity isn't that evident. Knowing his background, his sandbagging being "controlled" by Modine in the tie up is pretty funny but he does a good job selling the underhook lateral drop and pin.

I always thought it was draconian they only had one varsity spot in each weight. Is that the way your HS was too? The anecdote about your HS teammate who wrestled JV for four years is inspiring and I'm pretty sure you've mentioned that in the grappling forum awhile back too. IIRC our team had two (possibly three?) varsity spots at each weight but only one starter spot the guys would wrestle off for. There were always some absolute studs who never got to wrestle a dual meet because they couldn't win the wrestle-off with the starter. But they were still on the varsity squad. Staying at JV for four years sounds like a real test of grit and determination.

How did it workout with the girl? Toronto is like the armpit of Canada. As in, not shaving under arms <Eek2.0> Lol I wish I was kidding.

You are probably right. My experience was before 2019. I saw fit girls. Lots of yogis. Girls were cool. They snowboard or ski vs celebrity gossip and watching the bachelor. I found the girls more feminine.

I worked out in Stanley Park. It was great. I'd rather that instead of tinder or OLD apps. There's indoor facilities like spartan or tough mudder. Imagine Wolf Feng, Johnny's dojo but more organic. Met so many tourists in these spots. I don't get why more young guys don't go. Much better than the gym and 100x more functional. Met 2 girls directly from Japan just off their flight. I photo bombed them accidentallyon purpose. They thought it was funny and gave their numbers.

Locals would have been several metric tons larger, pissed off, feminist, and likely would have tried to fight me and metoo me.

Came to the realization that looks is very relative to the people around you. If everyone looks like shit, then a decent looking chick will look like a perfect 10 even though she might average in another place.

There's a older gen X YouTuber that says we don't know hot. That our generation is basing hot on just not being fat (most of the time). You both make good points.

Kicks are weird man because I stopped boxing and starte training Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. I noticed all the kicking, stretching, jumping and switching turned me in to a super athlete of sorts.

When I was a kid, i skateboarder. It made learning snowboarding in blackcomb easy. Unfortunately, my hips are jacked up and full of imbalances. Internal and external rotation is a mess. As a kid, you don't notice. The pushing and the repetitive motions set imbalances and things I'm working through. There's kicks I'm incapable of or will always look weird. I found value in yoga and stretching routines.

Like when I returned to boxing, I could do some serious shit with spinning out of the way and switching as well as bouncing around nonstop. That shit helps with grappling because it gives you fast feet which can mean good trips and throws.

Boxing is amazing. It is so damn difficult. The depth of skill set is infinite. It's amazing where guys like Loma or Usyk and Fury are. The current generation is unreal. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Fast feet is important. Coordination. I remember a trainer tying my feet with rope. Old school shit but he didn't want me flat footed. Also to cover distance. Mobility is so important.

Great question about season 6. I am at a loss for word to be honest with you. I mean the way season 5 ended, it felt like a conclusion.

I similarly had thr idea Mike would be something like this. Something like you said and with Silver. I'm happy they took him a direction entirely unpredictable. It was cool.

Not sure what they do if anything with Silver. The tournament seems wasted now. It didn't really give clarity as to how Daniel rematched Silver. Also, the fight in front of his dojo.

as in bad writing or horrific for a kid to be bullied by their sensei or coach? I saw mma and boxing gyms where a coach bullied their student. It's awful..

I am looking forward to season 6. Unsure what they do. what would you like?

As Danny, he was a fatherless kid, and likeable. As Daniel, he's smug, arrogant, and even cheesy. I forgot about the annoying commercials. Great point. If you could grab a beer with either, Johnny is by far the one you would pick to watch the fights with. Shoot the shit with.

Really hoping they close it out as well as it's gone so far. This is one of the few shows out now that doesn't suffer from a forced woke agenda - Johnny proudly drinking and driving, etc.

I liked Johnny ripping on hawk to make him grow a pair. He gets a gf. He fixes his face and haircut. He learns karate. I wouldn't like to see bullying a student but "tough love" is important.

I hope no woke agenda.

Watching the movies as a kid, Daniel was definitely the hero and the good guy. But the tongue-in-cheek interpretation that he's actually the aggressor has some merit. He's definitely a bit of a swaggering douche himself and instigates Johnny multiple times. Miyagi's view is it's just "boys being boys" which is probably true, but he's not onboard with the 4 vs. 1 fights, which is really what swings it toward Johnny and buddies being the bullies.

The guy who plays Terry Silver is a legit martial artist and you can tell.

TIG earned a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do when he was 18. He later earned a Black Belt in Kenpo. He made a few martial arts/action movies in the early '90's. So it's no surprised he looks the best out of all the cast.

Yeah, my team was basically one lone varsity spot. I had to wrestle for it pretty much every year, from 10-12th grade. Some other schools I knew of had A and B teams or that sort of thing, where the A team would go to certain varsity tournaments and the B team would go to others. If both wrestlers had winning or .500 records, they were both allowed to compete in the post-season. I love the idea of multiple varsity spots; that sort of solves the quandary of what to do with the guys that don't make the top spot but whose presence as training partners is absolutely essential to the top guy's success. It is just a cool idea in general. Like you said, the idea of one varsity spot is just kind of rough and draconian. That 4-year JV wrestler wrestled for a rival school, not mine, unfortunately. I think I would have enjoyed wrestling a lot more if that guy was my teammate. Honestly, I wish I had teammates like him. My whole team could've used a guy like him around. He came at me like an absolute savage in Districts, having never been competitive with me before. And he was actually beating me until I tech-falled by putting him on his back and letting him off repeatedly. Being the one to eliminate him was definitely bittersweet, but it was pretty awesome to see a guy bring it that hard. My team had the opposite mentality; we had seniors who pulled out of team districts so as not to put their seedings at individual districts in jeopardy, essentially torpedoing any shot our team had at advancing.

I'm gonna have to watch Vision Quest for the billionth time to figure out what the deal with Kuch was; I thought Modine was taking his spot in order to go against Shute, but maybe not. He doesn't actually make weight until later in the movie, right? Because the whole movie he's cutting down for Shute, hence his inability to hold his mud. So maybe you're correct. Either way, it is kind of a shame Kuch didn't get to do more wrestling in that movie knowing about that guy's background, although he's a terrific character either way.

I saw a YouTube video arguing Johnny was the good guy. Show cut scenes of Danny instigating, hitting on his gf or being a d-bag. It waa funny and well thought out. Then the HIMYM skit and the guest appearances. Then came Cobra Kai.

I really love it. It waa great. The 1st movie was my favorite. The others were good but by 3, it seemed to lose its original message and dynamic. It was weird how they wrote out the gf. Also, her being the reason Danny and Johnny fight. Not blaming her lol. Just she had some focal point.

I don't think it's epic writing or storytelling. It's better than the rubbish woke stuff that keeps getting put out on a conveyor belt and force fed. It's still well done.

I'm curious how much of it is just nostalgia??? I await season 6.

Sad to see Silver lose at the end. He carried this season for sure.

Yeah. Tbh it made little sense given his 1st encounter with Daniel Son.

unless of course, the dual with the Japanese sensei had him rekt. Near death.

It just seemed so fast. I also want Johnny getting more shine.

It shows. Thanks for sharing. he was pretty sadistic in the movie. Imagine being so sinister over children's karate? <45>

Your wrestling surfer sensei John Bree sounds like the type of dude who looks like Paul Walker.

I think if the parking lot incident didn`t happen, then Johnny would not have a misdirected hate towards Daniel.

The girl had a boyfriend and we were good friends.

Vancouver was fine before the pandemic. In 2019, I finally got myself out of the funk that I was in for a decade and things were going really good. Tons of hot young fit babes. Its not when Covid happened, we either have hags or hogs for women. Everyone looks like shit.

If you check out on YouTube Vancouver night clubs 2020 and beyond, you are not going to see hot babes anymore. Meanwhile in L.A you will and L.A has night clubs that are anti woke and fat acceptance which is a great thing.

Funny with boxing is, there are different styles of boxing. From squared up stance to angled to standing sideways. Side way is very hard to learn but very rewarding and it compliments karate in terms of compatibility.

Agree, now with cobra kai defeated, who is going to be the antagonist? L.As bad boy...Snake perhaps?

I agree about Barnes unpredictable future. I like the fact that he is a furniture guy. Expect the unexpected and that is what we got. The funny conversation was awesome with Daniel thinking that Barnes is talking to Silver.

Bullying happens a lot in combat sports because the incentive is money, fame and glory as the theme of success. When this is the criteria of success, you will be in a culture that is very toxic. Hence all my friends are in karate and I do not befriend boxers because when I did, it was horrible.

As far teaching goes, my boxing coach was a great fighter who fought floyd mayweather, he was an amazing trainer who knows how to teach at a very high level. Sadly he was not a good businessman and had no gym management skills and did not know how to set up payment, advertise, manage daily activity or have a running structure. He closed the gym down and works a freelance and gets tons of work because he is pretty well known. But yeah running a gym is a whole different ball game that is unrelated to being a trainer.

Regarding Barnes, even before the cobra kai series. I always thought that he either opened up a karate dojo or he became a odd job laborer who is barely getting by in life and is just some trashy dudes getting in to fights. While I always thought that Johnny got a job as an accountant and is now working for a firm.

It was super trippy to see my vision of Mike Barnes ended up being a fate for Johnny. He seemed like a smart guy and like Silver, he tricked Daniel when he kissed Ali when Dan was watching while Silver tricked him with the whole wife comment.

I still cant believe Mike never opened up his own dojo!
