Did Francis embarrass the sport of MMA

No. The sport of MMA is embarrassed by Dana White and "ownership" who consider the fighters "independent contractors" and pay them pennies on the dollar compared to other sports leagues. Francis embarrassed the UFC by leaving and making more money, but sadly, most MMA fans are morons who regurgitate what they're told. Smh.

Not at all, he arguably won the last boxing fight and he got caught in this one.. it happens

There’s no standing 8 count in MMA, acknowledge that and we can move on to the fact that fights start on the feet and there’s no guarantee Ngannou even gets AJ down before getting KO’d cold again.
This is just the dumbest take ever. It's like you have no idea what usually happens when a pure boxer competes in mixed martial arts.

In a way yeah but in the long term its not gonna matter. Nobody is going to stop watching MMA and/or start watching boxing because of the result of these fights. The inherent quality (and consistency) of the product largely dictates that. Thats why boxing is fighting a losing battle against MMA in the long run no matter how many disgruntled ex-UFC stars they lure over there to look bad.

If anything I think boxing playing host to crossover/freakshow fight after fight for years on end and these fights accounting for over half the time casuals pay attention to the sport nowadays is gonna have a more long term negative effect on it. MMA has just kept its head down and keeps doing its thing.

Also by its own fanbase who are hilariously massive fans of a carny promoter bilking them, no other sport has a fanbase were so many love the owner/promoter way more than the sportspeople.

It was embarrassing, but Francis’s #1 job was to secure the bag, and he did that.

No he did not. He lost to an all time great HW boxer.

Yes he did. And I think AJ would actually beat him in an octagon too

I certainly wouldnt rule it out. A boxer will always have a punchers chance in MMA even at the highest levels but obviously its not a great strategy in terms of actually winning consistently in MMA. Also Ngannou is a relatively stylistically favourable match up for a boxer in MMA, guys like Jones, Aspinall, Jailton, DC, Stipe, Cain etc considerably less so.

Plenty of boxers could transition to MMA if they spent a few years training for it BUT at that point they're mixed martial artists with a boxing base, just like most MMA fighters have a base in something that they then build around.

Could be a Democrat controlled city/state with tyrannical limits on our constitutionally right to carry, thus disarming honest law abiding citizens.
Nothing says “law abiding citizens” quite like threatening to shoot someone over a bar fight.

Only in the minds of boxing people who like to literally pretend that it doesn't matter that it was boxing rules

In a real fight most fighters MMA or otherwise probably would throw punches first.
The mental gymnastics to avoid admitting that one skillset is superior to the other... on an mma forum too 🤯

If only he stopped with the fury fight then MMA wouldn’t look as inferior. Casuals will have a hard time believing the heavyweight champ is the “baddest man on the planet” from now on. I understand it should've been expected for Francis to get outboxed against Joshua but to get absolutely humiliated and knocked out brutally within 2 rounds isn’t a good look for MMA and someone once considered the baddest man on the planet.

Yes and also revealed to the world that a Heavyweight champion barely makes 1 m dollar compare to other sports.

I mean even in Dart they make more money!!!

Yeah it was embarrassing, just total outclass and destruction. Yet isn't this the normal sane outcome for someone at Francis level vs a top 3 worldwide boxer.

Then again we had the opposite vs Fury, that was special like a real life Rocky movie, I don't care how much Fury trained or his underestimating etc whatever he stepped in that ring as the best boxer in the world and Francis went the distance and actually took rounds away and real ones not fake ones given away for gassing strategy / rope a dope, no legit I take the center I put you down you need to be careful or you will get hurt rounds.

So you take the good and the bad what else can yo do, hope he can recover psychologically it was a brutal loss that can really screw with you head wise, confidence wise and we saw him how scared he was of losing and gassing in that Lewis comeback fight.

Nah, the fact that he felt the need to exit the sport to finally make money is more embarrassing for the sport than him losing to Joshua. That said, I don't give a shit about fighter pay at the end of the day and only want entertainment. Boxing is not entertaining to me. Ngannou vs Jones, Pavlovich or Aspinall is what I wanted.
