The far right was battling in the streets for years with communists but they were irrelevant until 1929 when the global economic situation led to ultra harsh austerity measures by the german government, and unimaginable suffering among the people. That was by far the most important factor which allowed Nazi propaganda to take hold. Neither the Treaty of Versailles nor the Great Depression were were the result of communism.
