Dana White Picks Jon Jones Over Khabib Nurmagomedov as MMA GOAT

This was a great interview with Dana. He also said Epstein is a hospitable individual, Harvey Weinstein is Hollywood's talent-discovery king, Sean Combs is the GOAT of music, UFC's working to do co-promotion with Dylan Mulvaney, and Biden's doing a bang-up job as president. So I believe it when he says that Jones is the MMA GOAT.

To be fair he mentions longevity, Khabib could've been #1 had he fought twice a year until 35 or so.

if we disqualify Jon for steroids, Khabib should be disqualified for pullouts

That doesn't seem reasonable at all.

Khabibs record stands for itself, pullouts and early retirement notwithstanding.

And his record is not at all sufficient for entrance in the goat category. Maybe if he had not pulled out so many times he'd have actually managed more than 4 top 5 wins, but that's secondary. The lack of elite wins and title defenses is the reason khabib isn't on the list.tbe reasons why those numbers are so low doesn't really matter imo

Not a Dana fan but he's right here

If you go by dominance against opponents, its definitely khabib. Khabib never even bled.

Jones got his ass kicked quite a few times and should have some losses as he got some very questionable calls.
I love this absolutely absurd talking point by Khabib tards.

Yes, Jon is absolutely less dominant than Khabib because he finally got challenged in his:

- 14th UFC fight and 6th title defence against Gus
- 21st UFC fight and 14th title fight against Santos
- 22nd UFC fight and 15th title fight against Reyes

Meanwhile Khabib only ever had 13 UFC fights and 3 defences. AKA less than ALL of those.

Like golly, gee whiz, you guys ever stop and think that maybe, just maybe, it's the staying on top part that's hard?

Let alone that young Jones was way more dominant than Khabib ever was so it's just a dumb talking point from the get go. Let me know when Khabib ever literally broke someone's face in half like Jon did.

Khabib isn't even close to GOAT status. He definitely should be and his run was something legendary that shouldnt be forgotten but he retired without enough defenses and the majority of his early fights were in a promotion his own father owned.

End of the day he beat McGregor, Dustin, Gaethje then retired. He looked human against al iaquinta. His wins against these guys were very dominant but all 3 are strikers. I know he could have beaten a grappler at an elite level in the UFC or a guy like Charles but at the end of the day he didnt.

Essentially, what would we be saying about Anderson Silva if he retired after the Forrest Griffin fight? We'd say hes the GOAT. It's awesome he retired with his brain and health in tact and I admire Khabib and Islam for their discipline and how they live their life. Hopefully, Islam sticks around longer because Khabib should be the GOAT. He decided it wasnt worth it. His fans hypothetically claim he would still be on top but who knows. Who would have guessed Weidman would destroy Silva? No one...

Dana will always pick someone currently on his roster as the GOAT and will always ignore or downplay fighters who have retired or no longer part of the UFC.

Jon Jones is a great fighter but too many * next to his resume both inside and outside the octagon to be a GOAT.

Muhammad Ali shaking his head at that notion.

Dana's real son.

Allowed that man to take performance enhancement drugs without consequences. Thats the ULTIMATE dana white privilege.

khabib retired too early. his body of work isn't enough to be considered goat. i don't like jones as a person, but i would definitely pick him over khabib.

Was the question asked: "If you have to pick the MMA goat, and you cannot pick GSP, will you then pick Khabib or Jones?"

Seems like this whole comment is built by Dana to strut around a bit and make sure his audience gets that GSP is Not Even In The Running. Jones was his obvious pick cause he's still working for the UFC. GSP is the target. Anderson went to boxing so he cannot get a mention.

Dana probably still thinks he can find a way to get Khabib to fight again, hence #2.

Well yeah. Both are undefeated after 29 wins, but one has 15 title wins across two weight classes, and one has 4 title wins in one weight class. If you're not picking Jones over Khabib, you're not thinking clearly.

Khabib is at this time the GOAT LW in the UFC. that may change soon.
his resume is very impressive but he doesnt have enough title wins to surpass what Jones did.
even if you take out the fights that were turned into NCs because of Jones' habit for picograms and the fights that he shouldve lost, he still has 11 title defenses. this is also not discounting his run to get to the title which was very good.
side by side Jones has the better resume on paper, although i would argue Khabib was more dominant in his fights overall.

If you compare the same amount of fights, considering Khabib only had 13, then Jon was much more dominant than Khabib was. When did Khabib ever break someone's face in half like Jon did to Vera?

Khabib doesn't get extra points because Jon eventually had tougher fights at:

- 14th UFC fight and 6th title defence against Gus
- 21st UFC fight and 14th title fight against Santos
- 22nd UFC fight and 15th title fight against Reyes

Which are metrics Khabib never came close to. That's ridiculous.

im talking about just visually watching them fight.
Jones had great moments of dominance but also had moments of shakiness within a number of his fights. Khabib, although one could argue that he left too early, did not have too many moments that stick out where he was truly in trouble. Poirier got him into his worst spot.
Khabib only has 1 disputed decision (Tibau) amongst the fans while Jones has multiple.
Khabib also never had his title stripped due to doping. (there are of course theories about him doping but since he never failed a test, its just conjecture)
Jones also almost lost the title by DQ if not for Smith being too much of a stand-up guy for his own good.

ive already said Jones is better than Khabib overall in terms of records and stats, but in my opinion Khabib looked more dominant in a lot of his fights. Jones is very good everywhere; he was able to outsmart a lot of his opponents and then use his tools to act. but Khabib is a specialist so when he kept someone on the ground while beating them up it just looked like they couldnt do anything. made it seem much less competitive than Jones' fights.

full disclosure - i used to be a huge JJ fan like 10+ years ago but his behavior since then has completely turned me off as a fan and i am not one any longer. that doesnt change the fact that he still needs to be given his due as an objectively supremely talented fighter. one of the best the UFC has ever seen. im not some blind hater.
