Media Dana White: "We're working it out" regarding Wonderboy pay issue

Do you think Wonderboy will get paid?

The extra layer on top of it all is that Wonderboy has been a model company man for his entire tenure in the UFC and he's very near the end of his career. Even in his recent interview with Ariel, WB was extremely cautious in not besmirching the UFC brand or Dana.

Like someone said in the other thread, no one should be surprised, but its a crummy way to play it.
This kind of stuff is why it's funny when ppl say fighters should suck up, when that usually just gets them screwed over. It rarely pays to be a company man in most lines of work, and combat sports is no exception.

Simple solution to this problem. If a fight misses weight and his opponent chooses not to fight the next time the missed weight fighter fights, a percentage of his purse goes to the previous fighter. They can make it a simple 1 pound is 10%, so for example next time Pereira fights 40% (since he missed weight by 4 pounds) goes to wonderboy even if he is sitting on the couch. This will give a big incentive for fighters not to miss weight

Its the same with any workplace. Just suck it up and deal with intolerable working conditions for 30 years only to have your pension stolen so that executives can receive a golden parachute after running the company you've worked for into the ground. Scumbags.

If you put up with "intolerable working conditions" for 30 years you ain't too bright.

Or enslaved in acid mines on a distant planet.

Listen if your argument is he should be compensated for his time invested and money spent to show up on weight...then i dont disagree ..thats good enough if he does indeed fight soon ..

My argument is against those who are claiming he deserves nothing ...

Theres an argument he could deserve full pay ...but that will come down to contact language which no1 here has .. and sense people were so shit to real fighters on here we dont have inside sources anymore ... .

He absolutely should have some form compensation if you agree with that then so be it..we cool
I do agree with that, and that Dana seems to acknowledge that aswell is good enough for me.
If arguing what he 'deserves', arguments based on the contract and arguments based on basic moral are bound to get mixed up.

What we do have is the regular bout agreement in place that got leaked by someone in the circle of Taila Santos. That allows at the very least a based assumption.
It's on this site. I can't find it. I can't upload it either, for some reason the PDF is too large. There was a thread about it, for real.
And that says "...on condition that the bout is completed.... Zuffa shall pay to Fighter" .
That is pretty straight forward.

By the way, in 5 days, it will be exactly 5,000 days since Jones had his only official "loss" against Matt Hammill.
5 December 2009. Crazy to see him being unbeaten for such a long period, going up against all the killers and legends he has fought.
I don't know what is more amazing, his fight career, or his personality

His personality is even better

Imagine a situation where one of each pair does not make weight, and the other refuses to fight. Event is cancelled. Where do you get the money from?
Imagine that fighters conspire, and then just split the show money.
The UFC should cover WB's expenses, but giving him his show money is too much.

Does it suck yeah but thats the contract and its always been that despite people in here for years thinking and still thinking all you have to do is make weight to get paid.

Thats never been the case and they sure as shit aint setting precedent that you can refuse to fight and collect 6 figure checks. Its one thing if a guy misses by 5 pounds and the commission calls off the fight or something and guy is making 20/20 then hitting him off 20k aint shit. Refusing to fight and making 6 figures they aint hitting you off and def not WME era UFC. Maybe old Zuffa would depending on teh fighter, do they step up for UFC, are they loyal, big name etc Lorenzo might be like just pay him but penny pinching UFC of today aint coming out of pocket out like that cause they have heart.

In a nutshell. Look at the poser

How cruel to make Jones' opponents pose with him

Sure and between the ppv buys, sponsors etc made over 20 mills, went it with an advantage and had an easier camp because he knew he wasn't gonna cut all the weight.

But sure the biggest star that fights at whatever weight he wants was a great example.

Yeah, the guy who has never missed weight and has a massive financial incentive not to do so actually is a great example thanks.

It is completely logical in fact. Otherwise, fighters could take fights, one misses weight, and they split the money together without having to put on a fight. It makes sense

They should have backups in every weightclass for every event if this is the game Dana wants to play. Make it part of the contract, if you want to get your show you need to fight if there is an eligible fighter that has made weight.
