News Demetrious Johnson bow and arrow chokes 6’3” 250 lbs Brown Belt Sherdogger at IBJJF Championships

Every time this stupidity comes up, I think of a dude that I went to high school with who won Texas state golden gloves as a featherweight.

He was 5'7", and looked like a emaciated nerd in street clothes.

I saw him wreck guys who were over 6 feet tall and 200+ lbs. in fights on multiple occasions.

People who think that being in good shape from weight training puts them on par with highly skilled fighters couldn't be any more deluded.

i don't get the logic behind it. nobody thinks that they can beat a skilled carpenter at carpentry just because they're big and strong and can carry more wood and hit the nails harder with their hammer. it's like society has dumbed down people into thinking fighters are just cavemen, and fighting is just a sport of chance on who lands first. when fighting is a highly skilled sport more so than many other sports which mostly rely on being born with otherworldly athleticism.

What would DJ do then? I’m sorry but that fat bjj guy seems to not even be able to walk straight without falling. Not saying the bodybuilder is much better but an actual athlete of 230 pounds would kill DJ in a real fight. There’s just too much size and strenght difference. Other than punching or kicking in the nuts there’s nothing DJ could do…
Feint punches get in on a leg…
If he gets stuffed, rinse and repeat until the guy gets tired. He just has to keep scrambling. Even if he ends up on bottom he will be able to scramble up…

Big guys only chance is a ko or injury via concrete. Which can happen. But also probably won’t against a guy the caliber of dj.

Definitely not a clean victory for dj. He will get battered, bruised, and possibly injured. Grappling on concrete is hardest on your knees and back in my experience. It would 100% be in djs best interest to simply avoid a street fight. But in this hypothetical in which he is forced or willingly participates. DJ beats a ton of big athletic guys by just being smarter.

I think a lot of people can’t fathom this because they lack real life experience and fight IQ. People with fight experience literally fight bigger trained guys in the gym all the time. We know what works and what will get us into deep trouble.
Big guy can’t just “take him out”

DJ keeping up being crazy. Like that mixed rules bout with Rodtang.

Training MMA over 18 years and still a brown belt

Mighty Mouse is the default pick when you look for a fighter to compete in just about any martial sports if you go without a specialist of just one asset. Like you need someone to do bjj? Mighty Mouse. Muy Thai vs World champ? DJ is your man etc.

Takedown, backtake, choke. It would be far easier than you imagine.

If I was a tiny guy going against a guy three times the size of me with a lot of strength I'd be wary of being on his back choking him because I don't want to get destroyed with a slam to the pavement.
If you take them down and take their back you should have enough control to stop them from standing or easily release the back and go right back into a takedown. If you let them stand all the way up for no reason you deserve to get slammed

Not saying he would, but in an actual fight he could actually punch and throw DJ around like a sack of potatoes.
Lol he could not throw DJ at all. Striking is the only risk and Bradley has no technique and is slow as fuck

You wouldn't do it standing but you can always let go and jump off if he starts getting up.

Yeah sure I just think it's a lot more precarious of a situation than some people here seem to believe.

From personal experience, it's only risky if your back control is shoddy. You have so much control over someone in that position. Plus complete you own the initiative to change the position while maintaining the offense. I don't think there is a better place to be than the back for a smaller person in a fight. No risk of fluke KOs. Strength matters a lot less.
