To reduce to the ridiculous, Alexandre Pantoja is similarly well-rounded, and similarly FAR better than Francis Ngannou in every way ... technically ... but Pantoja's "technical superiority" would mean nothing in a fight against Ngannou, due to the massive size/strength difference.

Jones is similarly-equipped, technically, and admittedly more closely-matches Ngannou in height/reach — but Jones is far smaller in density than Ngannou — and not a NATURAL heavyweight.

Jones has bird bones, bird legs, tiny waist, fragile arms compared to Ngannou.
As an LHW, Jones' significant height/reach enabled to beat many elderly middleweights, in the twilight of their prime, back in Jones' heyday

However, in today's game, "gaining a gut" doesn't make Jones a natural heavyweight.

Jones has struggled mightily against people his size Gustaffson, Reyes — and even a crippled Santos — during which time Ngannou has improved his boxing to an extent that (while he may have lost to Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury), he is leagues above Jones in fist-fighting at this point, not to mention leagues above in natural size/strength/power.

One mistake is all it takes for Jones to get KO'd, and Francis has gained a level of technicality to where Stipe can't take him down, and to where he can box with world-class professionals.

francis has that monstrous knockout power but bones is much more well rounded so it can go either way, if bones slips up, its over but if he stays consistent then he coasts through with a UD or a submission

Francis was also holding up negotiations in that time frame - he refused to sign to fight Jon without big money - he's confirmed this although his fans (actually he has none, they are just Jones/Dana haters) make up this narrative that he'd agreed to fight when it's not true. When Jon signed the contract, big Frank signed with PFL. Also from 2020 to 2023, Francis fought a grand total of 3 times only 1 more than Jon so let's not act like he's some super active guy always ready to fight.
