well, no.
when someone says "the cure can't be worse than the disease", his reply is that the "disease" in this saying is death. it's what the lockdown is trying to prevent, lots and lots of preventable death. the "disease" in this context isn't literally covid-19, just like the lockdown and social distancing aren't the "cure". right? it's an aphorism (is that the correct term? i'm too lazy to look it up).
if you want to be obtuse about it, and claim that he somehow stated covid-19 kills everyone, that's ok. but it doesn't make you right.
the opponents of the guidelines are claiming that being locked down is giving rise to suicides, domestic violence, and economic hardship, and the sum of deaths from those issues is higher than the sum of deaths from covid-19. and that would be a compelling argument, if only it were true. covid still kills some 500 people per day in the state of new york. is there any data to suggest deaths due to domestic violence and suicides exceed that number daily? it still kills around 2k people per day across the US, which is more than any other cause of death. how are you still arguing that this isn't true?
what he is also saying, quite clearly and concisely, is that choosing to ignore social distancing and lockdown guidelines does not only risk your own health and life, it risks others' as well. and while you might have the right to risk your own life by doing stupid shit, you don't have the right to risk other people's lives.
