You sir, are no Carnal Salvation...

Also, my blood pressure this morning was 153/105, and my resting pulse 82.

18 months ago my bp was 120/80, and resting pulse 48.

OHP:
135 lbs, 5 x 3

BORS:
135 lbs, 5 x 10

Shrugz, curlz, lateral raises, farmer carries, machine stuff

30 minute run

10-30-15 (11)

DL:
Worked up incrementally from 225 lbs to 335 lbs 2 x 3 and then back down again over an hour.
It was a frustrating night. I feel like I am going backwards.
I feel like my workout partner and I are kind of the blind leading the blind. There are a couple of retired power lifting coaches in the area and it might be time to call them in to clean up this mess.

I'm still here supporting BB in whatever he does

11-1-15 (1)

Bench:
205 lbs, 5 x 3

Dips and tricep pushdowns

Thanks Midmo. I'm changing Doctors this year, I'll keep you posted on "you know what" *wink, wink*

Yeah, mschatz, my pulse rate and bp numbers are freaking me out.

A friend gave me a treadmill yesterday. It's in great working order, and is right in my living room. FTW.

Today I'm also going to install my outside gym. Basically, two 6"x6" posts sunk in the ground with hooks for squats, a bench, and saw horses for safety.

Again, a 2 week dietary cleanse starts tomorrow also. Nothing extreme, other than all junk food and alcohol is out.

Ready to rock n' roll.

11-2-15 (2)

Squat:
270 lbs, 5 x 3

Leg Press:
450 lbs, 6 x 6

Leg extensions and leg curls

30 minute run

Nice. A good clean 2 weeks should help out quite a bit.

Happy New Years

This log needs less planning and more doing

I thought you had a power lifting coach?

Well, my workout partner was my coach.
It's kind of a long story, but at the meet I was disqualified for all three bench press attempts because my ass was off the bench. It was my first meet, so I had no idea that my form was illegal. But in all the months of training leading up to the meet my coach never caught it. On top of that, my dead lift just keeps going backwards.
So needless to say I have demoted her to "workout partner."

Just got back form Chateau Depot with over $100 worth of stuff for my backyard squat rack / pull up station.
After lunch, I install it. Pics to follow.

11-6-15 (4)

Dead Lift:
295 lbs, 4 x 3
315 lbs, 1 x 3

Cable Rows:
6 x 6

The stuff:

6"x4" beams, 10 ft tall, anchors for the beams, concrete (cement) for the footings.

Going to sink the beams 3 ft deep. Getting started:

Ha ha ha. I thought you set a bunch of PRs recently and that she was part of the reason. Maybe it was a placebo effect, and now that she has been exposed as a charlatan her presence isn't going to help.

That dirt looks like clay, I think your back work out for today will take care of itself.

I did set my bench PR with her coaching, so I can't complain too much, but the fact that my form isn't technically legal irks me. It seems like that would be an obvious thing to catch and correct in training, no? That's a red flag.
I think on DL we started getting into all of this tinkering with the form and trying to correct some things, and slowly my numbers have started dropping off. The dead lift sessions are low energy and almost tedious. There's not much intensity to them. I know technique and form are golden, but sometimes I feel like I should stop the tinkering and just pull the damn weight with some emphasis.
So... I'm appreciative but wary at this point.

Some hand cycling.

Total clay. And rocks.
Good news is that my work is going to let me borrow a 8" power auger that'll give me a 3 foot deep hole in about 2 minutes. I'm bringing it home tomorrow, and I am going to auger the holes out on Sunday before the football games start. I'm psyched.

If someone is planning on competing, making sure that their technique is will pass in competition, and drilling that technique into them, is an extremely basic part of coaching, and probably the easiest. If a "coach" can't do that, they have no business coaching powerlifters.

A note that I wasn't going to admit, but now I will:

I started smoking again in 2009. Cigarettes. Bleeaaagh. I'm only smoking maybe 5 cigarettes in a day, but it's gotta stop.

So I've got some vices to overcome fellas...

That's exactly how I feel about it. She's a pretty good workout partner. But I think it's time for me to take the reins back.
There's an older power lifting coach who knows his shit, but he is presently out with an injury, and geez can that old fart talk. You can waste a lot of valuable lifting time listening to him talk theory. Still, I'll corner him for tips and advise next time I see him.

There's also a younger guy who works for the gym and I often see him giving instruction to people on some of the bigger lifts. Really cool super nice dude. I may see what he can help with on the bench and dead lift.

Also, I will try to get some video of my lifts for feedback here.

We all have vices, mine is asian midget porn.

Long ass warm up sets
275 lbs, 3 x 2
295 lbs, 1 x 1

As frustrated as I've been lately I decided I needed a confidence boost, went for 330, got it.

30 minute run

Rob, get your ass to Flagstaff and let's do some JUDO!!!!! Or just do a little training in elevation.

Midget porn is, indeed, hard to resist. My favorite was "Santa Comes Again", in which the elves go bonkers on some babes. Back in the day...

Hey dude, I'm trying to register for the NAU class, but no one will call me back from the college. If I manage to get into the class, I'll call you. PM me your cell phone # brother man.

Pictures from today's progress.

The gas powered auger. Thank God for this thing. Drilled a 2 and a 1/2 foot deep hole in about 60 seconds. Eventually I hit a rock slab and couldn't go any deeper.

100_1805.jpg

Posts in the ground. 4"x6". I poured about 4" of concrete into the holes first, let it set up for maybe an hour or two, added a touch of gravel, and then put the posts in. The posts each had an anchor attached to the bottom that went into the base pour. Then I mixed more concrete and poured it around the posts in the hole, about 3" from the top of the hole. Again I added some gravel and some jagged rocks into the wet concrete. Tomorrow I'll do a final pour, with a 1 ft form around the base of the posts for added stability...

Then there's the bench. Given to me by a friend. It's gonna take some work, but here's the before...

Any thoughts on hooks for the bar for the squat rack? Need to support up to 315 lbs.

Also, New Years day picture, fat Rob:

Do you plan on removing the uprights from the bench and using hooks on the posts? I'd recommend it, as a 7' Oly bar won't want to balance too well on something so narrow.

As far as what to use for hooks, I don't really have any clever ideas other than using lag bolts to secure some wooden wedges to it. If you don't get what I'm saying, I can make you a sketch.

And nice bloat.
