Anderson Silva x2, Machida, Belfort, Munoz, Maia > Hendo, Belfort, Hall, Santos, Leites, Munoz

You'r talking like Mousasi has beaten best guys. His best win ever is his last win over past his prime Vitor. Belfort wasn't so washed up when Chris fought him. Mousasi could be overrated as fuck too because his recent run is over mid level guys. And he didn't put Vitor away in r1 like everyone else does.

Mousasi didn't take any risk , he got hit 8 times in 2 rounds against Belfort

Who is Weidman's best win? He beat up a bunch of Brazilians past their prime and then when he actually had to fight a legit contender (Rockhold), he got destroyed. Weidman became overrated when he beat old Anderson Silva, then he beat old Machida and then old Belfort. He beat named guys but he beat them when they weren't their best.

I agree that there are some red flags on Chris here, but it seems kind of silly to dismiss beating "old Machida" as meaningless when Mousasi lost to the same Machida literally 5 months earlier. I also think you can pick apart Mousasi's resume and come to similar conclusions regarding his level of competition.

I just think Weidman has another very tough match up in front of him. The losses, injuries and surgeries aren't a good look either.

Mousasi just been looking like a more polished version of himself though, flawless performances. I think it's his time.

A lot changes in three years, Mousasi is peaking, Weidman is arguably declining.

Momentum matters for sure, but so do matchups. Weidman wad ahead on the cards vs Luke before throwing a dumb high-risk kick that led to him giving up horrible position and getting finished. Then he was in an even fight with Yael before getting caught with a knee that would have KO'D a rhino. The injuries are for sure a concern, no question. But stylistically who has Gegard beaten that has anywhere near Weidman's grappling abilities? We've seen Gegard controlled on the mat by lesser grapplers than Chris.

I'm not saying it WILL happen, but nobody is laying -250 on Chris either. He's a dog with a very clear path to victory.

Am I forgetting something? Machida hugged him?

Took him down multiple times and dominated the grappling yep. Fight was standing a lot too but yes there was plenty of grappling and it was ALL Machida.

In the 4th round Machida tripped him up, jumped into his guard and pretty much laid there for about 30 seconds before getting reversed. Gegard maintained top control for basically the rest of the round. In the 5th Mousasi shot for a takedown, Machida stuffed it and ended up on top. He controlled him for the last 2 mins of the round and had his back for a good portion of it.

I believe if Chris gets Mousasi down he's going to have a very difficult time getting back up.

I don't even remember Mousasi reversing him but been awhile since I've seen it so I will take your word for it. I just remember at the time being pretty surprised how easily Machida controlled the grappling aspect of the fight. Weidman is (assuming injuries haven't taken a giant toll-which I admit is possible) obviously a superior grappler to Machida, we saw that when they fought each other.

I think Gegard is really good at limiting damage off his back but that's about it. Aside from his hails Mary upkick KO of Jacare in their first fight, I can't remember him ever doing anything but survive on the mat vs decent (or better) grapplers.

I hit him by sub at +900 or so vs Mark Munoz. Not sure if he counts.

Don't think he has much of a chance doing anything better then surviving if he gets put on his back though.

Munoz was a solid grappler at one point but not when Mousasi fought him iirc. I think Mark was pretty much done at that point wasn't he?

Well I faded the fuck out of him after that, which had mixed results. That said I think it's safe to say that he wasn't in his prime.

bibulatov/lausa is the fight i have my eye on...

I have a feeling Bibulatov might open heavily favored. Not sure where he will be for a debutante but I'm imagining it could be expensive, or it might not be.

Realistically, his wrestling will get him the W but he doesn't look that good yet at holding people down. I mean, at 125lbs it's really hard to hold guys down because they're flyweights.

Jenel is a pretty skilled striker and he's pretty athletic and fit. He could actually develop into a good MMA fighter if he seeks training at somewhere like Tiger Muay Thai. But as it stands he's gonna have a hard time wrestling with a Russian.

I like Jenel I hope he sticks around.
