Opinion Should The Next James Bond Be A Woman? Daniel Craig Makes His Feelings Crystal Clear

why should we gender bind cis male or cis female bigots it should be a non binary pan sexual role.

Is anyone seriously actually pushing for a female James Bond, or was this just the product of a Twitter# or something?

Nothing controversial about what Craig said. It doesn't make any sense no matter what way you turn it.
Make a 008 series, and make it a girl. Solved.

It's mainly a social media thing involving two annoyingly vocal sides, one side being vocal about how Bond franchise should be more diverse by making Bond a POC/female and the other side being anti-woke reactionaries (particularly on Youtube), who overreacted over the fact Bond's replacement for his 007 status after he left MI6 following the end of Spectre was a black woman (mostly to push a "Go Woke, Go Broke" narrative for cheap clicks).

However, EON themselves have openly stated Bond would never be played a woman.

Sounds about what I expected.

James Bond is a white British male with 27 books of source material. There are plenty of female spy movies, that’s all it will be. A woman can’t be Bond, just like a Man can’t be Wonder Woman.
I will not pay a cent or spend a minute watching things with an obvious and purposeful wokeness. Lazy and obscene attempts like:
Ghostbusters with Women
Oceans 11 with women
Black Annie
Black Can’t Buy Me Love
Black Torch in Fantastic 4 when he is a white characters brother.
I mean they made a white redhead little mermaid into a mixed race kid....it’s not necessary, they have princesses of color now, Create roles for people of color, women and gay characters instead of just plugging them in for existing characters. You make Superman black and Gay? I’m out. If you made Jimmy Olsen black and gay I wouldn’t care, not integral to the story of who the character is.

The thing it, the more woke Hollywood has become, the more I find myself simply uninterested in their product and other things fill that space in my life. So let them do it and millions of fans will simply tune out.

But realistically, they won’t do it. “Get woke go broke” may not have fully set in but it’s becoming an increasingly inescapable reality for businesses/investors. Unless you’re operating in a narrowly defined niche, broader audiences just don’t want a heaping dose of politics to go with everything they consume.
Outside a few sad films like 1917, nothing they’ve made in the last 3-4 years has interested me at all. Hollywood gets almost no money from me anymore. Def voting with my wallet

Daniel craig doesn’t think the next James Bond should be a woman.

Craig will play the legendary Britishspy for the final time in “No Time To Die,” and there is certainly a massive search underway behind the scenes for his replacement.

However, those hoping Craig would endorse the idea of it being a woman are going to be disappointed.

The answer to that is very simple. There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman,” Craig told the RadioTimes.com when asked if the next 007 should be a woman.

"I will never understand people who think James Bond should be a woman. It makes no sense at all. They are aware that the character very literally has the name of a male"?

James Bond is supposed to be a member of high society and a womanizer. How are we going to stick to the origins of the character if we just switch it to a woman?

Jane bond? Or perhaps James bond the trans LOL

They should try it and see the massive box office failure that it'll be.

Why not just create a new character and leave James Bond alone? Why does everything need to be completely reworked to fit some new narrative?

Why can't JB be a white uk make who identifies as a black trans lesbian? Win win, no?

Idris could've pulled it off... too had he's aged out of the role.

They made Doctor Who a woman. The viewership cratered.

Naturally, the Beeb is blaming everything except making Doctor Who a woman.

I have no problem with female action heroes, but the trend to do female makeovers of established male movie heroes/characters, is just stupid.
If it becomes real, it will flop.
And frankly, I would think it a bit insulting to feminists that they need to "borrow" the fanbase of a male movie hero to get viewers.

But lets face it, it would not be a bad idea to kill off the Bond franchise and put the money into something new and original. Now if they could also kill off the multitude of superhero movie-franchises they keep inflicting us with too...

I mean he said more than that

But when asked if a woman should play the next Bond, Craig said that would be a disservice to female actors.

“There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color,” Craig tells the RadioTimes when asked about a female Bond. “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

I guarantee that if they do a switch, it will be gender and race. I would actually love to see Tom hardy or Idris Elba take the role

I will never understand people who get roaringly upset about this type of thing.

They're fictional characters and fictional characters get re-written every so often to appeal to a new generation of fans. To take the Bond thing since it's thread specific -- rewriting James Bond as a woman would obviously completely alter the origin and baseline of the character. I don't think anyone argues otherwise. It seems supremely inane for people to say "You can't rewrite this character as this or that because it doesn't match the origin." Well, yeah, a re-write would have to be a fairly significant alteration to many details while keeping other elements similar.

I see the whole thing as part of the larger and very normal fight against change as older generations fight to keep the future fairly close to their childhood memories. But future generations want their own versions of things, versions that reflect society as they see it. And to do that, characters have to get re-written, origin stories get changed, etc.

Maybe as a comic book fan as a kid, I got used to this. My dad had a bunch of old comics and one of them was a graphic novel featuring Captain Marvell fighting Thanos and dying of cancer. Fast forward to this generation of kids and no one cares about that version of Captain Marvel or Thanos. Yet it didn't stop people from watching the movie or accepting the Carol Danvers characters.

I guess I can understand some disappointment when a fictional character moves in the new direction with a new origin story but I don't think I'll ever understand the scale of the investment people have in this.

Actually, viewership for her debut episode were higher than Capaldi's debut episode, so a lot of people were interested in that.

The reason viewership dropped had more to do with the poor material being written and Chibnall being a rubbish showrunner than the Doctor being a woman especially since the show and other Doctor Who media (one of the earliest examples being the 1999 BBC Doctor Who novel, Interference - Book Two) before that have hinted or confirmed that Timelords can change gender and skin color.

I'm not of those people who's completely against race swap or genderbending, mostly because I grew up being exposed to media I'm fond of that used those tropes as neither are a new concept created by "wokness". I even made a tweet thread on it.

BUT, I feel James Bond is one those IPs that's off limits. Part of the character's backstory is that he was born to a Scottish aristocratic family and from what I understand, there are no aristocratic African descent Scottish families and that's hinted at in a couple of Bond films so that can't be ignored. It would feel like turning Shaft white, it wouldn't feel right because his ethnicity is part of his character. You could getting away with it by trying to make him mixed like part British, part Jamaican (kind of a nod to Fleming's love of Jamaica) but that wouldn't satisfy anybody.

Just watched King Arthur. There are more main protagonists that are Black than any other skin complexion....in migration age England, which is where the arthurian cycle is deeply rooted.

So yeah for all I care make James Bond a muslim transgender in a wheelchair. It's not like I take Hollywood seriously anyways.

/thread.

The only reason people do this shit with existing properties, is because these assholes want to write their own movies but know their shitty plots won't sell. So they bastardize something else.

I'll take a Martini.... Triggered not stirred ..
