Military Roll Call! Veterans, GTFIH!

Not authorized by the Army.
I think both the Army and Marines don't authorize their members to wear combat patches from another service.
Stupid in my opinion. If you fought with that unit, you should be allowed to wear it.
No colored patches on the U.S. Army camouflage uniform. A few Army units don't follow that.
The 1st Infantry Division boys (and girls) being the primary violators of that regulation. To include Company and Field Grade Officers.

* I really don't care about unit or combat patches, school patches, or tabs. I don't care about rank. Is he a good soldier or effective leader? Is he competent? Can he motivate and lead soldiers. That has to be proven everyday of service. A school is just a school. What happens afterwards is what really matters. Folks with combat patches are a rare breed these days. Most have left the service.

Warrant insignia used to be the biggest pain in the ass to distinguish from afar.
The worst is SNCO rank on woodland digital cammies. Can't see shit but just a giant black blob without a magnifying glass.

Damn those subdued devices on anything...and navy's shit is hard to see now too with my worsening eyesight.

On the flipside the star over my anchor is also hard to see, and funny to see folks squinting at it

Saw lots of 5th Group guys rocking 1st Mar Div patches.

@heavyarms21 Been reading a lot the past couple of days since that helicopter crash and USMC aviation maintenance sounds like such a shitshow.

It is not the maintenance. The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a piece of shit. It has been a death coffin since the 1960s. Mainly faulty electrical wiring. Not sure why the Corps keeps flying that piece of shit. The Boeing V-22 Osprey is a close second.
This documentary explains the problems with the CH-53E:

It's definitely maintenance side too. The op-tempo is insane because squadron commanders wanna get the most flight hours. Already downed birds getting cannibalized for consumables like o-rings and valves.
And the Osprey is actually safer than the Blackhawk.

Hey @My Spot, I know you are a fan of the Rangers as an ex-Marine.
Here is a video of the 'Darby Queen' obstacle course in all its glory. There are really only 2 obstacles that are difficult. You can fail a few obstacles in Ranger school and still pass. This from the Best Ranger Competiton.
Also, someone told me there are fewer Ranger operators in the U.S. Army than Special Forces operators. Don't know. I would have to do the math.

Have you ever seen this video? "Your job is to go out there and meet the minimum requirement for safe for fucking flight. It’s not to go out there and try to down a goddamn aircraft!”

Knowing nothing about USMC aviation, and only slightly more about the USCG side:
Sounds like a command problem more than a maintenance one.

The USMC is the primary user of V-22 Osprey. Fewer flying = fewer accidents.
Everyone flies the UH-60 Black Hawk. The Black Hawk is safer than the Huey (Bell UH-1), and the Huey is safer than the Osprey.
Did you ever fly on a Huey? It was certainly more fun than the Black Hawk. ...and the CH-47 Chinook more fun than the CH-53E Super Stallion.

I understand having high optempo overseas. Getting worked to death in garrison though is retarded. 5 marines dead and it wasn't even training, they were just flying back to their base in Miramar but there's a historic rain and snowstorm going on right now in SoCal.

And the Black Hawk is being replaced with tilt rotor.
The only thing I ever flew on was a CH46.

Dude fuck him.

Thank God I went USCG

I'm glad I was ground side. Going to the field all the time and getting triggered by piles of trash overseas sucked but it's pretty skate in garrison.

Our air stations need to have a helo in the air ASAP at a moments notice for SAR 365/24/7 and that fucks with our maintenance folks....but agree over here for yall that is fucked

Fuck no , I'm the complete opposite, I don't give a fuck about flight hours if it's unsafe , I've gotten into it with pilots before when I was a SSgt and my MSgt had to smooth it over because I wasn't wrong.
