Official Women's Division Discussion #27

Weekend Picks

Loma Lookboonmee vs. Jinh Yu Frey- Frey
Germaine de Randamie vs. Julianna Peña - Peña
Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana - Aldana

Bellator
Kate Jackson v. Denis Kieholtz - Kieholtz

Same although I want Loma to win. She is a small atomweight and even though Frey is not exactly huge at 115 she is larger, stronger and has more MMA experience - and at a higher level.

Good commentary from Pena about her place in the division:

She speaks truth, but she's still cocky and I see her getting beat up because of that.

Germaine is clearly larger and stronger, and was also able to keep the fight standing against everyone but Amanda and her bull strength. Don't go out there thinking you're going to grapple her into victory. Also, Irene has been ACTIVE and fighting #2s, and a former world champion this Saturday. If Irene wins the MAIN EVENT, she's getting past your ass. If Holly wins the main event with a finish, she's getting past your ass too or AT LEAST booked against you/Germaine for the next shot.

For me, this seems like a set up for them both. If they both win, the shot should just go to the more impressive winner.

Main Card – Polsat Sport / IPlay – 12:30pm ET / 9:30am PT
Anita Bekus vs. Izabela Badurek

Interesting names there. Recognizable.

Valor Fighting Challenge 74
Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
Main Card – iPPV (BoxCast.tv) – 4:30pm ET / 1:30pm PT
Larkin Dasch v. Sara Hayes
So in spite of what everyone was saying to denigrate Loureda and Bellator's matchmaking, the Hooters girl is still fighting.

She talks loud and fast. Though here she adds ‘god wiling’ she rarely exhibits respect for opponents past present & future. It rubs me the wrong way as well. I’d guess GDR wants to knock her block off.

Agreed, I get this entitlement out of her, I think. The bad type of entitlement, where she needs to put others down, to lift herself up. She basically threw shade at Megan Anderson, but just like Irene Aldana; Megan has been ACTIVE, and also fought a former world champion.

What's wrong with throwing shade at Megan Anderson, plenty have?

that's right and Megan has the worst entitlement-to-accomplishment ratio than any female notable I can think of off the top of my head in the UFC (indeed Megan is only really notable for being 6 feet tall), not to mention a wholly unmerited title shot coming up... (and also not to mention throwing plenty of shade over numerous others herself despite never having 'earned' the 'right' to do so).

and also also not to mention not to mention Juliana was inactive due to injury and pregnancy (legit reasons), while Megan after arriving in the UFC amid much (undeserved) fanfare immediately went AWOL for a long time for still-undisclosed 'personal reasons'....

I'm going to commit heresy  and go with all the kickyboxys:

Kielholtz/Jackson: Kielholtz
Aldana/Holm: Holm
GDR/Peña : GDR
Look-a-moon-bee/Frey: In the exception, Frey.

////////

although I'd hoped to troll the kickyboxy types (which is nearly all'yall it seems) with Zutova/Zhelenznyakova when that was posted a while back and everyone was anticipating Zhelen's kickybox performance vs a wrestler, that fight seemed to have been postponed for a bit. But now it happened (the full fight posted a couple above by @MajorTB , but a brief hilight below:)

I haven't watched the full one yet but it looks like it'll be fun to watch - It looks like Zutova went all out early and Zheleznyakova (barely) weathered the storm - judging by the outcome, Zutova gassed and stopped moving and didn't weather the return storm from Zelez. Oh well, experience will make stronger ;). Also good to see some 'international style' takedowns from Zutova rather than just grindy double leg against the cage-style moves.

I think you're doing it wrong. Kielholtz is a Judoka, Jackson is the kickboxer, clearly, you need to pick Jackson.

It's not just Turkish kickboxy ladies that are hisitronic bad losers, but their grapplys too <{1-8}>

Turkey has actually rented a crowed to make noise during weightlifting competitions when certain other nations are competing. Not all that relevant, but there is a lot of effort put into being obnoxious in some places.

I love her calls for a kickboxing fight when Kielholtz was lighting her up on the feet too. <45>
Makes a ton of sense, she assumed that you had to block punches with your face in mma, that it was in the rule book. Total misunderstanding.

in other news, Kielholtz just flattened Jackson in under a minute.

Just noticed that Sarah Frota has an upcoming fight in Brazil, I thought she was banned until next summer?
From USADA yes
She can fight on places not ruled by them though.

Something similar happened to Alexander schelemenko when he had the 4 years ban and Ivan Shritkov when he got "surprisely" caught by USADA and requested his release.
