While I can understand the perception that it's flip flopping, I think people are expecting the President to react in a way that shows moral courage and that is sensible. Rage tweeting and threatening military intervention is both immature and authoritarian. There is a more sensible approach to use, I think.
For one, he can address the act of killing George Floyd as a troubling event but call upon the results of an independent investigation into the incident, and commission a study of public perception of law enforcement in matters of race relations, prejudice and bias, and use the results of the investigation for policy making. In short he needs to address the problem head on instead of strong arming peace. But he's been nowhere to be seen except for his pres nice on Twitter and one brief appearance for a photo op and to threaten the American people with their own military.

I think a distinction needs to be made between peaceful protesters and violent protesters. To scatter peaceful protesters assembled in front of a church for purposes of a photo op sends a dangerous message to everyone. I'm all for protecting the public's private property and one can only imagine what it would look like of these anarchists started looting the suburbs. The police should arrest the anarchists, but the President himself crossed the line. Now how do you think protesters, violent and peaceful, are going to interpret that?
