UFC Fight Night 184: Holloway vs Kattar

Lentz actually performs decent against grapplers. I could see him snagging up a guillotine too.

Well, that was the only ptv that i could see. Its a low % ptv imo. But maybe i am missing sonething.

I thought he was lucky against stolzman. Him snagging the guillotine in r2 won him that fight imo. Stoltzmann was winning r2 until then.

Yeah grundy is also not a great striker. Staying away from this fight.

Ok, looks like i need to watch some tape. I took 2 units on the presumption the line was going to widen more, but it didnt, now i regret it.

finally get more than a week to tape! these past 3 months have been hectic haha.

inital thought is max/kattar GTD.

Also, Pena should easily beat McMann
say wha..McMann is gonna have her way and get a sub. Pena just doesn't look the same coming back after having a kid

Like Ricky Simon for a bet so far.

I think Dusko has the slight edge, current price is probably right.

Slightly favour Warley Alves but he slows badly if he's made to work in the first and he's slow.

Max is the better fighter. His footwork is a lot better, he has the better fight IQ and more experience at high level. He is the rightful favourite. Unless he suddenly lost his chin, or he fights like a dumbass, I don't see reasons to pick against him.

I actually like Omari over Breese. Omari is a reliable fighter. He has a good gameplan everytime. Comes to win. Serviceable striking and wrestling. Has good chin. He fights more often and has more experience than Breese. Plus, he has better wins at MW. I can't technically breakdown that fight, but my hunch is Breese will shit the bed like in his fight with Allen. The value is on Omari IMO.

Taped the whole card almost, apart from the WMMA fights, just finishing up Holloway/Kattar now and I'm kind of not that impressed with Kattar.

He has a fantastic jab and seems to have some power, and that's about it? He's still lead leg heavy and even if he is better about checking kicks or evading them he's still very much open to them.

Even statistically he lands less and gets hit more than Holloway.

I don't think Holloway is uncrackable any more at this point, but is a stiff jab enough to do it against a high volume, endless cardio former champ?

Main event is the only fight i properly researched, and I went all in.

Thought i would be balls deep on Kattar as it would be a standup fight, but like some of you said there something underwhelming about him. He is very composed under pressure and has a great chin, but when he is shelling up against the cage he is losing. He usually turns it around by having a power advantage, but it didn't work against someone like Zabit who banked 2 rounds easy. I think it will be a low output affair, with Kattar having the power advantage, Max the volume.

What is making me hesitant is Max hasent been the same since his Proier fight. Before that fight he had awseome distance management, constant output and he would have spurts of aggressiveness that would drown opponents. Even against Proier, he had him in trouble when he went on a burst rounds 2, 3 and 4. He would then get hurt and lose them on judges cards. Kattar dosent hit as hard as Proier. In his return against Edgar, he should of Koed him. It was a very underwhelming performance. He then carried that into his Volk loss where he legit did nothing? Fair enough Volk did shut him down, but when has Max ever been hesitant before while eating strikes? He goes through them. In the rematch he said he did no sparing, and he was much better. He isn't sparing for this camp either. Maybe the damage he took against Dustin was really affecting him.

I am finding there is lots of questions in this fight that is putting me off having a hard lean. Max is fighting someone his height and with a bigger reach, he has always been hittable and I am noticing now it affects him much more now. Even Edgars punches were obvious. If its low output, and he eats a couple of brutal 1-2's that steal rounds ( Kattars best weapon ), it gets sweaty. If he is even better than the last fight after one more camp of no sparing then ye he should roll here. Kattar is also improving. It could also be that Volkov is an animal that has completely figured Max out, and Max has to fight in a different style against him. Max always gets countered over the top coming in against shorter guys, maybe someone his height will be more suitable for him. But ye, not left with a strong lean here, maybe a live bet after first couple of rounds.

Think Kattar is the underdog here because he is relatively unknown compared to the superstar Max is...

That being said I will be betting Kattar by decision at that whopping price because I think Max has seen his best days and been figured out. He also got married or engaged so that’s one pinky toe out the door already IMO. I imagine he will receive a boxing beat down similar to the one poirer gave him, I can’t imagine Poirer is levels above Kattar in boxing. Also, the KO is live but I can’t see Max getting finished honestly.

also, Chiesa as an underdog??? Chiesa in my eyes has too 3-5 potential. Magny on the other hand is a gatekeeper for dudes trying to enter top 10-15. If Chiesa can’t take Magny down, it will be a problem but I put Faith in Chiesa to hit 2-3 takedowns

That’s an interesting one. MMA Math tells us that Chiesa took RDA down and controlled him to a UD victory. RDA got Magny down and strangled him...

I think it’s pretty much Magny trying to stick and move, Chiesa trying to get in and get him down. Chiesa should be a small favorite I’d think.[/QUOTE]
