Law Opioid Billionaires Get SLAP ON THE WRIST For Murdering Hundreds Of Thousands

Well after years of litigation the Sackler family who are responsible for much of the opiod crisis just paid a fine and in turn immune from further lawsuits. No jail time. And they keep most of the money they got from selling the opiods. Yes 4.5 billion is a huge number but this family made far more and killed thousands by knowingly deceiving the country as to how addictive these drugs are.

Opioids have killed 600,000 Americans. The Sacklers just got off basically scot-free

Was gona make a thread on this a few days ago but forgot.

This is totall unmitigated horseshit. The Sackler family are epic pieces of shit, they have caused untold deaths, injuries, suffering and no doubt billions in damage for countless counties in the US and they fcukin get away with it. Such blatant cases like this is why many people believe the big fish always get away and our justice system is fcuked.

That’s common. My brother is a surgeon that deals with lots of people who are in pain. He said in his area one of the three docs nearby. One was a pill doctor and did as you said. Just wrote prescriptions for opioids all the time. And that was until recently

I have a few in-laws who are doctors; they said people approach them asking for opiod prescriptions but they refuse to do it. Some other doctors though aren't as scrupulous. It wouldn't be a bad thing if the FBI had a department dedicated to going after doctors who assist pill shoppers.

What exactly did they do wrong? All opioids they sold were prescribed by a medical provider, no? It's also misleading to link the total number of opioid overdoses with prescribed pharmaceuticals. Though many opioid death are from prescription meds many others involve street drugs where there is no prescription history.

The whole US system was/is fucked up so it doesn't seem fair to all of the sudden hold these clowns responsible.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out and remember being prescribed like 20 Tylenol with codine.

Exact same thing happened to me with my highschool sports injuries. I got full bottles of 20 or 30 pills after each ER visit or surgery, each time I needed maybe 2 or 4 pills, and by day 3 the max dose of ibuprofen could handle the pain.

Thankfully I had the adolescent attitude of “I want to be tough and not need painkillers”. If I’d taken say the full 20 pill prescription at 17 years old, I could have easily ended up asking around to my more unsavory friends where to get more or something similar once they ran out

I am going with Brett Weinstein's idea on this. That the institutions that should have been checking this have all been captured and no longer function. Yes, the FBi or ATF or what have you should have been enforcing laws like this. Esp when the fact that there were pill pushing doctors had become common knowledge.
The FDA sat by and basically signed off on this, when they should have been battling this the whole way.
This was allowed by so many, it was basically like boot legging all over again.

What exactly did they do wrong? All opioids they sold were prescribed by a medical provider, no?

They paid for some sketchy studies that showed their opioids weren’t addictive, and then presented these medical studies to doctors at conventions, to convince the doctors it was ok to prescribe these opioid pain killers like they were just heavy duty Tylenol. That was what they did that was wrong.

Funny as the data is available in some states like California. There is a state data base for opioid prescriptions but no one was really mining the data. So the epidemiologist from one county started playing around with the data base and doing some rudimentary geomapping. Bam. It was easy as fuck to find the outliers for patients and providers.

Meaning if they ever wanted an easy way to track down the over prescribers, the data was/is right at the states finger tips. There is no secrets as to who the high prescribers are.

When the epidemiologist mentioned above figure out how to use the database he pointed out the info to the state. Guess what they did? Shut off access to the counties.

This was a few years ago and I am not sure if this is still the case or not.

Yep, 20-30 pills would have gotten me addicted too. I think very few people could just walk away from that, even a new addiction can be devastating.
I was straight edge back then, so it was not an issue. But I am sure many kids got addicted to pills in the late 90s,a s that is when all kinds of pain meds were starting to be prescribed.

Yeah that's a crime but doctors know what they fuck they are doing. It's not like these were the only studies saying it was okay too. Can't pin all the deaths on these guys. There was a time when more doctors were getting in trouble for under prescribing than over prescribing.

while black guys have gotten decades in prison for a joint

The American dream is there, for those who obey the law and work hard.
That’s how the Fertitta family came to be worth billions. They certainly never did anything as heinous as possessing a joint.
