Yes I am. It was an open conversation of both sides. It was not an anti vax thread. And that hamfisted bullshit is only a one way street. We dont have a dog groomer mega thread do we? It wouldn't even fucking be allowed. This site is cool with be associated with anti vax but not the other? Somehow i doubt that. Anti vax is only allowed because it can be used to slur one side.

I went to a very old fashioned boarding school for missionary children in the Malaysian highlands as a kid (founded by James Hudson Taylor), and travelled throughout SE Asia as part of OMF. Mostly involved with mission schools.
Boarding schools for missionary kids belong in a bygone era now due to the internet, but I've still been involved with the mission schools, including in Papua New Guinea, mostly just doing IT. I've also travelled the region just for the fun of it, for weddings, and catching up with friends and family.

No chance. Despite spending so much time overseas in SE Asia, not being Australian is unimaginable to me.
I do have some family in the US, since you can't actually make a living with Christian music and singing in Churches in Australia.
Not likely to visit them though, they come here.

Ok cool, i just wanted to double check. Just to make the distinction that something being merged isnt the same as being deleted. Just a quick personal gripe of mine, if something is merged it is just to try and keep the flow of the forum clean. Im not saying that we are necessarily correct every time we merge something, but you can still have the discussion in a merged thread. We have a covid mega thread that has a lot of post from both pro and anti vax people. I definitely wouldnt say we are censoring the topic.

The grooming/pedo stuff is a problem because the topic turns into accusations. It just constantly happens over and over. Being called racist or anti vax is not a criminal act, and while i get people being upset about name calling, it falls into the mild flaming category. The site definitely tries to keep the racism allowed to a minimum. Still many think that we allow way to much to be posted here. Pedo/grooming is a severe criminal act. Yes the site prefers not being associated with the Pedo/grooming, but it is the accusations that keep geting people carded. There have been several threads on the topic, then we start getting accusations and the thread gets shut down.

I get people being upset about not being able to say whatever they want. The site does get to decide what content is and isnt allowed. The two biggest things in the WR that people are getting in trouble for is call for violence and for calling others pedos/groomers. Another thing that happens us trying to skirt the rules by substituting one word for another. We are all smart enough to understand the meaning behind the words.


TLDR: Merging isnt the same as deletion. There is no free speech on this site. Moding the WR is a pain in the ass, both sides agree the mods suck, but we still love you guys.

Not exactly a topic I was in a position to be asking questions about though.

Was it something that predates the inroads of Wahhabism into South East Asia? FGM isn't common in Saudi, but I wonder if the increased fundementalism that Wahhabism nurtured led to some adopting practices they see as very Halal that ironically is not generally practicised in the Gulf.

Several years ago Obama commented on how he noticed Indonesia had changed from when he lived there, with Wahhabism making Indonesia intolerant.

Thats quite the stretch considering teachers and the like will g a child but wait until they are 18. Like pat berry and rose namajunas. That doesn't make him a pedo it makes him a groomer.

But when you need to censor one side in a pinch changing definitions is the go to for the left these days so i can see why the site would skew the definition. Gross.
