My big stupid hype trains thread.

Not seen the OFC card yet, but intending to do so.

I caught the Danilo Suzart fight in Rectifight (rest of the card fell apart so he was the only one fighting), he lost and was absolutely terrible.

Will probably wait until next week to update the rankings as there isn't a great deal of movement anyway.

ONE on Wednesday

Troy Worthern (28/USA/BW/7-1) looks to bounce back from his first defeat in his last fight, but he has to try and do it against John Lineker so that's gonna be tough.

#4 Flyweight Yuya Wakamatsu (26/Japan/FLW/13-4) will hopefully bring his entertaining KO artist stylings against Reece McClaren (29/Australia/FLW/14-7)

ACA on Friday

Raul Tutarauli (28/Georgia/LW/26-5) looks to continue the recent good results of Georgian fighters against Aurel Pitrea

#15 MW Rafal Haratyk (33/Poland/MW/13-4-2) rematches Piotr Strus (32/Poland/MW/15-6-2) and will look to land some Wanderlei Silva style bombs on him like last time, Strus is good himself and will be hoping for revenge.

#14 HW Michal Martinek (30/Czech Republic/HW/8-2) should get a pretty easy win against journeyman Tomas Pakutinskas

Azamat Bekoev (25/Russia/MW/11-2) has an extremely tough assignment against Bellator vet Chris Honeycutt (32/USA/MW/12-3)

PFL on Friday

#2 LW Natan Schulte (29/Brazil/LW/20-3-1) starts the defence of his PFL title against Marcin Held

#10 FW Movlid Khaybulaev (30/Russia/FW/15-0) takes on DWCS vet Lajar Stojadinovic

Tournament dark horse Mikhail Odintsov (29/Belarus/LW/18-2) takes on Akhmet Aliev (31/Russia/LW/19-6)

#8 LW Loik Radzhabov (30/Tajikistan/LW/13-2-1) fights fellow prospect Alex Martinez (26/Paraguay/LW/7-0)

LFA on Friday

#11 SW Sveltana Goysk (24/Ukraine/SW/13-4) fights for the title against Pierra Rodriguez (28/Venezuela/SW/5-0)

Tough wrestler Jake Childers (32/USA/FW/8-1) takes on former DWCS fighter Canaan Kawaihae (23/USA/FW/5-1)

#8 SW Tabatha Ricci (26/Brazil/SW/4-0) fights Shawna Ormsby

Mark Martin (27/USA/WW/5-1) fights Renato Valente (27/Brazil/WW/7-3)

Zac Pauga (32/LHW/USA/2-0) takes on Logan Nail

KSW on Saturday

#2 LHW Tomasz Narkun (31/Poland/LHW/18-3) steps up to HW to take on Phil De Fries again.

Marion Ziolkowski (30/Poland/LW/22-8-1) who went the distance with Gamrot fights Maciej Kazieczko (27/Poland/LW/7-1)

Vojto Barborik (27/Slovenia/FW/12-1) fights Klaczek

Karolina Wojcik (26/Poland/SW/7-2) takes on Aleksandra Rola (29/Poland/SW/3-1)

SFFN on Saturday

Daniel Lacerda (24/Brazil/FLW/10-1) against Eduardo Da Silva (25/Brazil/FLW/6-1)

Terral Fight on Saturday

Alisson Murillo (20/Brazil/BW/2-0) against 14-7 Carlisson Diego, just because I want to see why someone that young with that record is fighting someone that experienced.

Crazy week.

Crazy week.

Thanks for putting this together. I was going to watch it all anyway ( do I watch too much mma? Nahhhh) but this gives me something extra to pay attention to.

Also, do yourself a favor and watch that Open FC show as soon as you get a chance. Tons of fun.

I'm part way through it now. {<redford}

Hugo Cunha

Country - Brazil
Weight Class - Heavyweight
Age : 28
Promotion - OFC
Record : 6-0

Cunha had a late opponent change so the guy he ended up fighting wasn't the same quality as the dude he was originally supposed to face, but he was still a bomb chucker on a win streak, albeit a fat one.

Anyway Hugo engaged in the standup for a bit and did okay, defended some flurries quite well from a guy throwing bombs at him and caught everything on his guard before eventually deciding to take him down. Once he gets on top of you though, holy shit does that ever look like an unpleasant experience. Just controls with wrestling to move to dominant positions and smashes the shit out of you while he's doing it until you give him his neck.

Not nice.

Should be on this more international contender series they're doing this year imo.

Yeah, I'm high on Cunha - shame the fight with Popov fell through but definitely think he's someone we might see on DWCS this year.

I know he might not be a prospect necessarily albeit still quite young, but man did I enjoy watching Tommy Aaron fight. Very fun and unorthodox style, relentless pace, Tony Ferguson in his corner. I like it!

Just a heads up that Tommy Aaron has just had a fight appear out of nowhere for Friday on Combate, he's fighting Luis Gomez who's 7-4 but his 4 losses are to Dan Ige, Jason Soares, Chase Hooper and Herbert Burns. He has a win over Sodiq Yusuff too.

Canaan Kawaihae

Country - USA
Weight Class - Featherweight
Age : 23
Promotion - LFA
Record : 6-1

Man, does it seem like this dude has changed in the couple of years he's been away. Last time I saw him he was a young kid in the Contender Series and in Bellator and now he's a grown man absolutely running through Jake Childers. It took someone as good as Justin Gonzales 4 rounds to get Childers out of there, so for Canaan to do it in about 20 seconds is ridiculously impressive. Even in that 20 seconds he showed good looking stand up and insane reactions and finishing instincts when Childers shot on him and he quickly wrapped up a ninja choke to get the tap. Can't wait to see him get booked again.

Piera Rodriguez

Country - Venezuela
Weight Class - Strawweight
Age : 28
Promotion - LFA
Record : 6-0

What a violent lady this is. Managed to get the better of a violent battle with another great prospect in Sveltana Gotsyk (who also went up in my estimation in the fight). Piera is an extremely aggressive fighter, who pays little attention to defence, but throws bombs on offence and is always pressing forward looking for a finish. Gradually by pressing and throwing she broke the will of Svetlana and got the finish. I can see that happening to quite a lot of girls throughout her career.

Azamat Bekoev

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Middleweight
Age : 25
Promotion - ACA
Record : 12-2

Another impressive young ACA Middleweight here. Had a very tough fight against a seasoned Bellator vet in Chris Honeycutt and had to really battle through some difficult spots in the first round. He managed to survive and then turn the tables on Honeycutt, subbing him in the 2nd round. Consider that Honeycutt is a dude who went the distance with Lovato.

Alexander Kovalev

Country - Belarus
Weight Class - Featherweight
Age : 24
Promotion - ACA
Record : 9-0

I'd like to see Kovalev in action against a better opponent, but I really, really liked what I saw from here. Just constantly pursuing sub after sub and being ready to transition to the next one when it looked like his opponent might be able to get out of one. Very exciting all action grappling style to watch.

Of the others that aren't getting hype threads this week but were mentioned above.

Vojto Barborik (27/Slovenia/FW/13-1) - I think has a nice offensive sub game, but is a bit sloppy with some of his grappling and I can see him getting caught out if he doesn't fix this as he climbs the rankings.

Karolina Wojcik (26/Poland/SW/8-2) got the W without doing much to really impress me.

Yuya Wakamatsu (26/Japan/FLW/14-4) had a fairly challenging fight against Reece McClaren, showed good TDD and defensive grappling to come through. Didn't go up or down in my estimation.

Vojto Barborik (27/*Slovakia/FW/13-1
I think that he understimated Klaczek and his groundgame + ring rust + jitters (He dreamed for like 10 years about his debut in KSW...)

What do you think about Martinek? I believed that he could compete on highest level in HW , but it seems like he seriously should consider move into LHW (By what i heard his normal weight is around 99 KG..) or gain lot of weight.

I wasn't impressed at all tbh, the guy he was fighting is a bit of a journeyman (Omielanczuk beat him up easily) and he made really, really hard work of it.

I think you're right about LHW, he's not very big for a HW and not so fast that he can catch the bigger guys either.

His speedness was affected by ribs injury at the end of preparation...same as his cardio. But still this weight differences is so huuuge when he fights vs guys in ACA.....Its nothing like HW division in OKTAGON :D

Yeah, I felt the same thing watching Narkun Vs De Fries, Narkun is the more talented fighter but these smaller guys just don't have any business fighting the really massive HW's unless they seriously bulk up themselves. The size and strength difference is just too much.

Martinek looks like a LHW sized guy to me, I think if he was in there with Tony Johnson, he'd get mauled in horrific fashion.

Being the son of the head coach of ATT is always going to give you access to some top quality training and adding a solid college wrestling career to that is going to make you a major prospect. Josh shows quality wrestling, mixed in with a top quality grappling game to make for a proper prospect. I imagine that he'll be a MW if he makes it to the UFC rather than a LHW, though.

This dude looks potentially incredible. I loved how absurdly calm, almost nonchalant he was during the fight. Worked well behind jabs and leg kicks while gradually turning the screw on the pressure to the point where he'd make his more fight ending attempts. Also sensible enough to realise when he wasn't going to end the fight and re-set and start pressuring again without blowing too much energy. Great looking defence, I think he absorbed maybe one shot over two rounds. Very mature for a 20 year old fight wise too.

This dude hasn't fought in 4 years, but it didn't look like it as he absolutely physically dominated his opponent before easily choking him. Ring rust not a factor for this guy.
That guy is a olympic lv wrestler. Made into top 3 worlds once. Legit one of the best wrestlers in MMA.
He hasn't fought recently because he was supposed to go back to wrestling, for Azerbaijan if i'm not mistaken, but it seems like that went away and he's back to training MMA.

in my opinion the #1 in each weight class would be Vakhaev, Muslim Magomedov, Ismailov, Magomedkerimov (or Soldic), AAA (or Lee, due to activity), Bimarzaev (or Koike, Omarov, Zhamaldaev, Yunusov), Kerimov and then Adriano Moraes.

Mineev hasn't fought top competition, neither did Junior or Hatley. But those guys are top 5 in those rankings, for sure.

It's kind of a mix of how good they are now and how good I think they'll get. Ismailov is older than my cut off point.

He wrestles for Turkey (and competes there as Shamil Erdogan or Samil if you believe Russian Wikipedia).

If you are interested, Lavrentyev fights tomorrow at RCC event which is gonna be broadcasted on Youtube. But I don't know if it will be available in your country (might be geoblocked, but I don't think I even heard about RCC geoblocking broadcasts of their events).
