Is there any pop/rock band u respect morr than The Beatles

Well greatness is a matter of opinion and influence does not even make it onto my list and skill only at a certain level.

My actual criteria is that greatness is measured by a musician or bands ability to transmit the sacred to people, to channel something larger than themselves that is spiritual, its ability to draw a person into altered states of awarness of the numinouse, of trancendent beauty. greatness for me is a bands ability to play the moment, to be one with the weather, the crowd, with one another, to lose themselves in the isness of the moment and adapt and bend to that so as to express it and find synchroniciry with it... to be played by god even.

But at this point we begin to leave the realm of popular music into deeper territory.

Still pink floyd, the doors, led zeppelin, dead can dance, talking heads could all do some of this but not all of it at a high level.

Oh and perfect music is boring.
Ain’t nothing boring about Beethoven, playuh!

Pleasure derived from any particular music tends to have diminishing returns. In other words, the more you hear something, the more you tire of it. Also, familiarity breeds contempt. Since the Beatles have been so popular for so long, it's no wonder that some people find them "overrated" and so on. But there's really no doubt they are the greatest pop band of all time. New generations will continue to discover and fall in love with The Beatles, as they've been doing for decades. No other band is even close.

It's interesting to note that in older times classical music was played much more loosely with much more openness to the musicians input but it is only in modern times where we have become obsessed with the illusion of perfection.

You cannot step into the same river twice but we seem obsessed to always step exactly in the same river missing all of the other beauty.

One of the measures of great music for me is it is how long it takes to get old after hearing it multiple times.

The better the music the longer it takes. some music doesn't ever seem to get old. That music is truly great imo bcause it captures something eternal and speaks to it.

Led Zeppelin > Beatles.

Not even close.

Bonham ... 1st or 2nd greatest rock drummer ever
Page ... Top 5 of not greatest rock guitarist ever
JPJ ... top 10 bassist ever
Plant ... top 3 if not greatest rock vocalist ever

LZ is greatest rock band ever formed and likely none again will ever equal or be close.

The Mars Volta > Led Zeppelin

I like the Kinks better than The Beatles. A band that came up in england around the same time.

Beatles are'nt even on the level of bands like Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Who, even ELO imo.

With something as subjective as music, there are always gonna be artists that you respect more on a personal level than another artist.

It may have been played more loosely, but that also could be perceptions of a modern audience. Most of us are much more familiar with music that’s either played even more loosely live, or oftentimes the singers and/or musicians aren’t very good musicians at all and couldn’t perform their shit like the recording of their lives depended on it.

That said, if you find a piece you like a lot, find videos of several of the masters playing. They definitely interpret things with their own flair and sometimes they can even differ pretty wildly.

For me personally, Richter and Cziffa (especially the latter) tend to really redefine my platonic ideal of a piece of music once I’ve heard them play.

And if so explain why that band u feel is worthy of greater respect than The Beatles
Kind of depends if you're referring specifically to the genre of pop rock which they popularized more than anyone, or to pop/rock bands in general. If it's the former, then probably no. If it's the latter, then probably yes.

The Beetles image, lifestyle and music played a huge role in setting this country on the path to destruction that it is on at this very moment so I have zero respect for them, I hate them really
<{dayum}>

I haven't got too deep into the Beatles but they are a great band, the White Album (no racist) is fantastic.

I would argue Queen took far greater musical risks than the Beatles. That's not really a knock at the Beatles, they did change up their game over time but it was all thought out and generally aligned with the interests of their fans. Queen dropped disco bombs on you when you weren't looking. They did not give a single fuck.
Queen is more popular than the Beatles right now. Especially with younger people. They get streamed A LOT more. They have crazy longevity. No doubt Bohemian Rhapsody (the film) helped with that to a large extent.

I am guessing most of the people in this thread have never even heard it.

Well they should, I'm a metal head and my Beatles fanboy mate made me listen to it, it's one of my GOAT albums. "Helter Skelter" is a metal song imo, heavy as

It's all subjective but I would disagree on all but Bohnam. I don't think Plant is anywhere close to the top 3 and Page certainly is not the greatest rock guitarist either
Jimmy Page was a better guitarist than anyone in the Beatles. Better riffs, better solos, better writing for the guitar. You can argue that the Beatles were a better band, better songwriters, better harmonies, better singing, lyrics, etc. but few if any would say their guitar parts were better than Page's/Zeppelin's.
