While I agree that should be the goal, there's no way it would ever prevent people from crying fraud.

Republican leaders of swing states who said the elections were safe, free and fair received death threats for saying so.

I'm personally tired of the coddling and racism of low expectations. If someone wants to get an ID, they can get one. Who is preventing them from going somewhere to get one? Nobody, that's who.

Oh, they closed down a DMV in a part of town? Is this town segregated? Or do people of all races live there?

They closed a Canadian Tire down in my end of town, so guess what? If I want to go to CT, I have to walk, ride a bike, take the bus, call a cab or drive my car to go shopping there.

What's a bus ride across town cost? A few bucks?

Sorry, but it's a sorry and tired excuse, and frankly very bigoted and racist of people to assume minorities (blacks in particular) are too feeble or stupid to figure out how to go get an ID.

If they want one, it's easy to obtain one, please stop with the nonsense.

This has been explained many times. How difficult it is to get an ID isn't the point, it's the fact that it was determined black people were less likely to have one that makes this suppression of the black vote.

It's just one more obstacle put in place to suppress the vote. One of many, some of which are so obvious it's insane we even have to discuss this. Considering how hard it's been to get people to vote in the first place, every little obstacle matters, and this year has seen an avalanche of obstacles. Conservatives are a minority, and they're doing everything in their power to rig the game.

They haven't won a popular vote in two decades, and it's already almost a foregone conclusion there's going to be a power shift in the primaries. A democracy governed by the minority.

Nice touch with the "no, YOU guys are the racists". That's page one of the alt right playbook.

It's not suppression though if it's something that's easily obtainable. I would get your point if an ID wasn't a requirement for voting in every other civilized and half civilized country but it is. Just say what you want to say. "People without IDs are more likely to vote for Democrats and I want Democrats to win, therefore I don't want an ID to be a requirement". A republican would probably make the same but opposite argument if they're being honest. You do have to address how doing it your way improves election security.

They recognized black people were less likely to have ID and pressed for these laws.

End of story, this has nothing to do with fraud.

Should there be ID? Yes.

That doesn't mean suppression isn't the driving force here. All you have to do is look at the dozens of other things they're doing.

Why is it only minorities (blacks in particular) that you seem to think have a problem getting an ID?

If a DMV closes down in a particular part of town, it affects everyone equally, white, black or purple.

If they want to vote bad enough, they will walk, bike, take a bus or cab or Uber or drive their car to get one.

They have Presidential elections every 4 years and midterms after 2 years.

The reason you are a bigot/racist is because your expectations are so piss poor for them, that you assume in a span of 730 days (365 x 2) you think that these people are incapable of finding a couple hours to go get an ID. That's literally 17,520 hours they have to get one between elections.

And what else are these people without ID doing? They sure as fuck aren't working, or flying on an airplane, you know, the things you need ID for.

So if they don't have a job, then they have all God damn day to get an ID, 730 of them in fact before they have to worry about voting again.

It's such a sorry ass, pathetic, tired and easily disproved excuse. It's racists thinking blacks are too stupid and unable to, at worst, take a trip across town on the bus to get their ID. The absolite epitome of bigotry and racism.

Ok so you are for voter ID but feel like the motivation for it is wrong so you don't want it in place? I'm sorry I'm genuinely trying to understand the logic. You have to jump through hoops in every country to get an ID, I don't understand what makes the US of A so special.

I'm saying this whole thing is about voter suppression.

None of the people pushing for ID give a flying fig about election security, everyone involved says elections are safe as houses. Have you seen the stats on voter fraud?

I say ID is better because it can't be worse. Safer is better. ID means safer elections.

I'm just questioning the motivations and pointing out the costs.

If the Democrats come out with legislation to make it easier to get valid ID, you absolutely know Republicans will fight it.
