Lol. Half the fighters can't accomplish this without TRT
Been back and forth on Franca v Giillespie, but with the influence of the bookie beatdown breakdown (time stamped below) I'm taking Gillespie here. Also took the O2.5 at -120.
Alan Patrick has some of the ugliest striking technique I've ever seen. A lot of these Brazillians on this card do actually.
I think all that spinning shit he does puts him at risk of getting KO'd. When you miss shit like that, you put your feet in bad positioning to get countered. Ray has a pretty strong left with which both guys are facing the same stances. I can see Patrick getting punched with a home run if he keeps clowning around with that capoeira crap.
Neither guy has faced a southpaw but I don't even know if I wanna count Patreek as a southpaw cuz he doesn't really have a real striking style. I think if Ray just throws a 1-1-2 he could probably knock his block off. Or cap off that combo with an uppercut if Patrick ducks under the 2.
Just as I lay a bet on Franca haha oh well
i like that show, i haven't listened to it before, enjoying it
it's pretty good, i like listening to it for info on camps etc
Idk if I missed something, but Patrick is never out of position when he misses with spinning attacks from what I watched. Dude does a great job of landing in stance.
Just to add on, Patreek doesn't even use his lead hand. His right hand is useless. He opens his palm up to parry shots and grab single legs but they're at difference stances here. I mean, unless he's had a serious camp where he comes into this fight a new man, I don't know if he has a true style to defeat Ray IF he doesn't get the TDs that he wants so badly here. He needs a repeat of that Damien Brown fight and get the fight to the mat ASAP and stay on top. Ray just needs to practice moving laterally to not be in front of the straight line bull rush.
He spammed it against Makdessi and Mairbek. Sometimes they even had no chance of even landing. A fight with more time spent on the feet just doesn't seem like a comfortable fight for Alan. And it looks like Stevie Ray makes pretty good use of both his hands. I'm not calling the KO, but it's on Patrick if he wants to start spinning like a ballerina.
the felder/trinaldo fight has a great shot at hitting since the three fights on the main card are probably going to be shit.
is it ok to remark that she has a tremendous, simply fantastic booty?
fun fact from bookie beatdown: erick silva has never been the underdog in the ufc till now, which is shocking. Also everyone hes beat isnt in the ufc anymore.
he opened as the dog vs fitch but became favorite... you're right, tho, this is first time he's the dog in his entire ufc career outside of that
Formiga SUB is +400 now
Don't remember much from the Mak fight but in the Mairbek fight he wasn't ever out of position. He used it like Conor does sometimes, where the intention isn't to land, its to get the opponent to react and counter.
I think Patrick needs to go for tds to win, but I don't think hes hopeless on the feet at all. Ray doesn't have a jab, and Patrick will always stay at kicking range where he can't work the pocket boxing he favors.
injury/illness along with fighting out of your weight class.
but who knows how many guys just blow off the cut because they just dont want to make it(sergio mora, floyd mayweather, orlando salido, john lineker, rumble)
its a breach of contract but since most go realtively unpunished(20 pecent of purse is not a huge fine relative to what could be the advantages received) the fight goes on because the other fighter has no choice
haven't been able to read through a lot of this thread but anybody else considering taking a shot at Urbina at over 4-1 now. I know Luque's a much more talented fighter but Urbina's got heart and he can hit pretty hard. Man I think he might be worth a stab here. Anyone coming with me other than Renee Zellweger?
Ray is coming out of Tristar isn't he? I'm sure they drill teh jab a thousand times a day. He's even got plenty of southpaws to work with at Tristar under a very high IQ coach.
Having said that, I beg to differ. I think Ray has a solid right hook. He KO'd Mafra with one. He even showed the jab against that French dude. Whereas Patreek doesn't even utilize his right hand. He's used it as a parry tool.
If Patrick works his left leg kick I'll give him a chance in the striking department otherwise the guy who has the better right hand wins the stand up.
But sentiments towards his wrestling, he definitely needs them to win.
A lead right hook won't help from kicking range though, and he hasn't shown anything to suggest hes all that good at stepping in on guys who won't be at mid range or come into the pocket to strike where he wants. He has a nice left straight, but it will be interesting to see if he can land it on the first southpaw hes ever fought as effectively as he did on righties.
Patrick isn't a boxer, but it won't be all that necessary if he can negate that with space, takedown attempts, and athleticism which Ray has never seen before. Marcin Bandel has about zero striking skills and athleticism, and still was able to put Ray on the fence, so its hard to not see Patrick having success in this fight in his strong areas.
We'll see though. As long as the over hits i'm happy, but I think the money coming in on Patrick makes a lot of sense. I like Ray, but this is a tough fight for him.
I was considering this too as Luque has steadily creeped up. Could be a Randy Brown/Montano situation where Brown was -400 but is still an early prospect and almost shit the bed? In hindsight, betting Montano at +400 or whatever it was, was a good play.
