Elections 1st Republican Presidential Primary Debate (8/23)

Who won the debate?

  • Total voters
    78
  • Poll closed .
Vivek basically thinks his experience and success should inform how the government influenced the lives of all Americans

Dunno if the Trump supporters who like Vivek realize how antithetical that is to the typical view of American culture and how socialist it is

Feels like the GOP primary is far more accessible for political outsiders compared to DNC primaries.

Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, and Marianne Williamson never gained traction in the DNC primary the way Vivek has in the GOP race.

Not to mention Bernie getting screwed two times.

Funny how that’s exactly how it’s playing out. All the Vivek clowns were RDS clowns 6 months ago, and were Trump clowns before that. They will all land back on Trump and pretend they’ve been with him the whole time. Really shows how little they believe in their candidates despite how rabid they are about them.
Full disclosure: I didn't watch the debate; but if this thread is anything to go by it turned out pretty much exactly as I thought it would except that I didn't expect all those candidates to pledge continued support for Trump. Like, that's how you say you know you aren't a serious contender for the nomination without really saying that, if you know what I mean. They're openly declaring they're completely fucking useless unless Trump ends up out of the race for one reason or another.

But yeah, I thought the same about this Ramasmarmy character. He became popular among the MAGAs very quickly so it was clear to me he was being pushed hard on right wing social media and the like. No need for any real substance with that crowd.

It will be fun watching the people who were talking him up on here over the last month or so trying to cope over the next while.

Meanwhile, Chris Christie doesn't seem to have any better chance to win against Trump than the rest but I think he's is in a better position than any of them should Trump end up out of the running; the rest will split the MAGA vote across various states, presumably.

Vivek wants to transform the country into a machine of evangelical business production.

“There needs to be some civic experience you need to have gone through in order to actually vote,” Ramaswamy said. “That experience could be living seven years as an adult and voting at age 25. That experience could be direct service to the country or some first responder service,” or, he added, passing a civics test.”

Wants the voting age limited but also influenced by a certain experience, wants to put students to a civics test, sounds like programming, wants mental health to be addressed in a faith based manner

That’s all quackery shit, and actually just unnecessary. We have problems sure but all of that is way overboard and a huge expansion of government involvement in freedom of religion, right to democracy, and freedom of speech.

he’s the only one getting conservatives excited because they think he’s going to “tell it like it is and drain the swamp” same sucker line they fell for when Trump ran
He's full of shit on that one too. Because he wants a test on being able to vote but didn't want a competency test for being President. I think he was one of the ones who said he trusts the people to make that decision. Just another sign of stitchwork pandering without consistency. He didn't want to touch the age thing because of Trump's age and he wants those voters.

I don't know how true that is when there's literally only one political outsider on the debate stage.

Only analysis I have is Haley's face is as off putting as Hilary's.

Finally was able to watch some of this. Really felt like everyone was trying hard, trying to play a character. Everyone came off as disingenuous.

If you want to sum up the current problem with the GOP is everyone on stage promised to support a dude even if he is found guilty of attempting a coup by stealing an election.
It’s funny when I was a kid I always associated the GOP as the law and order party but they are willing to throw that away so they don’t make members of the Trump Cult angry, and they tend to get angry when presented with ugly truths about their cult leader.

that awkward RDS smile reminds me of bobcat

Did you even watch it ? Christie , Hutchinson did not....

My bad 25% of the participates said they would not support a criminal.
Well never mind I take it back, the GOP is still the Law and Order party.

New respect to Mike Pence and Haley. They are not as bad as I originally thought. DeSantis and Ramaswamy are bona fide toolbags. Scott should bow out now, he has zero personality.

We should be disappointed that it's only the 2 GOP candidates who actually worked in law enforcement and prosecuted criminals who were willing to stand up and take the morally correct position on that issue.
