UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs. Song, Sat, September 17

With the run Rodrigues is on and the hype behind him, I'm really surprised that he's the dog.

You see the run Chidi's on? The line's been slowly swinging to Chidi but I'm surprised he wasn't more of a favorite. He's a better kickboxer than the guy Rodrigues lost the decision to, and Rodrigues can be very hittable. Rodrigues can be dangerous on the ground but he really doesn't have great MMA grappling, surprisingly for his background, and Chidi defends well against anything that's not heavy pressure wrestling. It's prob my most confident pick of the card next to Sabatini.

Yeah that's fair. I think people will be more high on Rodrigues than Chidi though. Pass for me but Barriault was in 16 seconds so you don't learn much, and Todorovic is not good. Rodrigues is very hittable but so far he's been able to stay awake. I'll enjoy watching that one without worrying about any bets.

I mean...the "run" that Rodrigues is on is literally one fight. He lost a decision to Petrosian the fight before he stopped Marquez. And just last year Todorovic (who's "not good") went the distance with Rodrigues.

Don't get me wrong, this is not an easy fight for Chidi at all. Rodrigues has multiple paths to victory and he's no easy out at all. But I think if we're only talking about recent performances, Chidi's look better.

cmon people stop pretending like Rodrigues clearly lost to Petrosyan. 75% of the media scored the fight for Gregory. It was a close one. Bringing him down because of this fight is just wrong. He could have 4-0 UFC record as well and then he'd be -200.

He knocked out Park who has a great chin. Lost to Petrosyan in an effort that increased my opinion of him. Then he dominated Marquez.

I'm pretty sure I bet Park against him so I'm not a big fan, but he's improved in my eyes after that awful effort against Todorovic. I wish it was more in the +130 to +140 range becuase I'd bet him at that price.

Yeah Marquez was considered 'very durable' before that fight and Gregory just punched a hole in his face. He carries a lot of power and Chidi has been knocked out before. I think it's 50-50 on the feet and Gregory has grappling edge.

At +140 yep I'd consider him too. At current odds...nah. I think he's at a speed disadvantage striking so he may actually need to try to use his grappling here. And I'm not sure how he'll fare as his TD game isn't special at all. If he can get Chidi down, big advantage to Rodrigues for sure though.

Both guys for sure capable of KO'ing each other cold. Chidi just looks way faster and more fluid. But yeah grappling advantage for sure with Rodrigues.

One of the key reasons why I'm not betting him is because of that. He's aggressive on the feet but once he's on top he acts like a wrestler and slows down.

I’ll be surprised if he runs through barriualt

He won't run though him but Barriault has average TDD and usually does well against guys when they start to tire. He's not a particularly dynamic striker and Fluffy has a great gas tank.

Moroz is a little taller but I really wouldn't say she's "bigger". And she still found her way to a sub over Agapova because Agapova isn't good on the mat. Gillian is probably better and slicker with her transitions than Moroz too.

I will never go huge on a WMMA fight with two fighters this caliber but I do think there is at least some value in Gillian here.
not just inch height, massive reach difference, 63 inches(Gillian) vs 68 inches reach(agapova), five inches is an entire hand length, its extra bone that Agapova has that aids her in grip strength. I stopped trusting Gillian since the Talia Santos fight, she was a black belt who had no clue how to scramble onto her feet and was happy to just lay there while a blue belt grounded her, i'm not saying Agapova is Talia. But wmma bjj is very weak, a black belt isn't really a blackbelt, because the poor scrambles and getups being non existent is bad for a favorite. If Agapova takes her top position, im not confident Gillian knows how to create space and squeeze out, she's going to be attacking her triangles and failing. We'll see.

Get ups aren't really part of getting a black belt in BJJ anyway. As long as you can do a technical standup you could probably get a black belt without knowing any get ups at all.

I think Santos is better technically, physically much stronger, and has a far better gas tank than Agapova. I can't remember (and maybe she has and I'm forgetting) Agapova ever controlling someone for long stretches on the mat.
